I am a big fan of Brazilian steakhouses ever since I tried them with my family many years ago. It's festive ambience, it's great meat cuts, and it's fabulous customer service has ...

Meat lovers must try 10/9/2005

I'm so glad I finally decided to try this place. I had heard about it a couple of years ago as a meat lovers haven. We went with friends on a friday night and had prompt seating great service and the food was great. I enjoyed the salad/appetizer bar. overall my friends, husband and I give this place 4 stars out of a possible 5. The fifth star is missing because the dessert selection is just ok. (but after eating that much who needs dessert anyway) Pros: promt seating, date friendly yet , still family friendly Cons: dessert selection more

Fabulous dining experience at a fair price! 3/31/2005

Smaller and more intimate than the better known chain churrascarias in the major metropolitan areas (Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, etc.), Rio Churrascarias dining experience compares very favorably. A dozen selections of beef, pork, lamb, chicken (including chicken hearts) are grilled on large, sword-like skewers and are sliced to order at your table. The $24.95 prix fixe dinner includes a sumptuous salad bar (including asparagus, shrimp salad, mussels and traditional hearts of palm), side dishes of yellow rice, black beans & mashed potatoes, and cinnamon pineapple. Various gooey delights are available for dessert, but after such a carnivorous feast who has room? Try a caipirinha (the national drink of Brazil) with your meal - it's sort of like a margarita without the salt and with a bit more kick. Service is a bit more relaxed than at the larger chains but is more attentive. Pros: Food, Service, Price more

Great Place 3/21/2005

This was a great place to eat. It has wonderful food, great service, nice atmosphere, and the host was real helpful and nice. We'll difinately be going back again. Pros: The Host, The Service, The Food Cons: A little pricey more

Not-so-much... 2/25/2005

Our experience at this restaurant was not so wonderful Atmosphere is loud, tables too close together, we waited long periods of times between servings of the meat, and only got enough for one or two bites before we were once again waiting for someone to come around with a new skewer of meat. The 'side dishes' were nothing to speak about. Frankly we were disappointed and had come here for a special occasion. Doubt we'll ever be back. more

New Favorite Restaurant! 1/24/2005

This is a perfect place for people who don't know what to order from a menu. There isn't one, which means no waiting on food to cook! I sampled a little bit of everything, especially the grilled pineapple! The variety of meat ensures you won't be disappointed and the salad bar is definitely not average either, with everything from hearts of palm to couscous. My plate was never empty. Presentation is everything at Rio, and I was thoroughly pleased with the ambiance. The seating area was small for a restaurant, but only made it more personable. The meat-runners were pleasant and knew their meat. This is definitely a place I will tell my friends about. Pros: Short waiting time, Variety, Unconventional more

Cold/Over Cooked Meat 7/23/2004

Hi Fellow City Searchers, I just wanted to let you know that if you truly want a Brazilan meal, this is not the place. The cuts of meat are substandard and most of the time are over cooked. Although it is a carb counters delight to have all this meat in one place, your dollar is better spent at a true steakhouse, where at least you will get a decent cut of meat. Pros: location Cons: , Small pieces of meat, service - slow more

A taste of Brazil in N Raleigh! 6/18/2004

Having traveled to Brazil, I was very interested in going to Rio Churrascaria. It is very authentic down to the Brazilian rum drinks. This is the place for steak lovers and those that love them. They also have an amazing salad bar that you could make a meal out of all by itself. Try this restaurant and you'll come back again and again! more

One word......AWESOME! 6/11/2004

I went in with high expectations, and every single one was met. Each piece of meat was like butter. I kept eating and eating because each piece was heaven, especially the chicken and filet wrapped in bacon. Each server had a personality and was very pleasant. Couldn't recommend the place more. Pros: meat quality, all u can eat, nice decor Cons: , too much food! more

raleigh's fogo de chao? 5/24/2004

i was very surprised of this restaurant. IT reminded me of chicago's fogo de chao. Pretty good meat all around and descent salad bar. it's not just a regular steak house and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try something different more

Neat experience... 5/20/2004

Its hard not to overeat when you pay $25/person. The salad bar was mediocre; I was hoping that itd be more exotic. The roasted meats were pretty good theres a large variety. And with the price you pay, you feel justified to try a little of everything. Id say that the red meats were more flavorful and tender than the poultry selections, which were bland and dry. This is definitely a haven for someone on a low carb diet. Im glad Ive tried this place once, but I doubt Id frequent it much due to the limited meal option (either pay $25 for a meat-heavy meal, or $15 for a mediocre salad bar). BTW, if you sit in the smoking section, you get 1 plate of cut meats (prepared by the kitchen), and thats it and yes, its still $25 (ask the bartenders). Pros: large meat variety, seasoned red meats Cons: , bland&dry poultry, must bribe the hostes more

Foodgasm! 5/9/2004

Rio was a huge surprise, I heard it was good but This places surpassed even my wildest dreams. The tableside/all you can eat model is great. Linda the hostess seated us in 20 minutes, The bartender made an excellent suggestion for wine and Flavia, our Portuguese speaking waitress, was outstanding. The salad bar alone was worth the visit. The fine array of superbly seasoned and perfectly braised meat choices come right to your table on spits straight from the grill. The price of $25 a person was pretty reasonable considering the quality of food, ambiance and service you receive. You can definitely get your moneys worth! The little "green light. red light" disc (letting the server know you want more) was a novel idea. Two thumbs up, I for one will be back again and again. Pros: great food, excellent service more

Excellent! Will return... 4/28/2004

Three of us ate at Rio last night (Wednesday). We had a reservation at 7 and were seated immediately- the restaurant was not full during our visit. The meats were fantastic, especially the picannha, garlic beef, and bacon-wrapped filet. Try the Brazilian national cocktail to get the full experience. We've been to one of the original Brazilian steakhouses in the US- Fogo in Dallas. I must say that Rio is not as nice or sophisticated as Fogo, but it's a great start and the meats at Rio are wonderful. The salad bar at Rio is nice, but doesn't compare to Fogo- but you don't go to this place for salad so it's not a big deal. The key lime pie and chocolate mousse were good too, but again the beef is what you'll remember. I hope the new Rio in Cary will surpass the Raleigh location in many ways. Pros: The Beef, All You Care to Eat, Great Cocktail more

Like Chicago's Fugo de Chao 2/16/2004

Finally we are getting Chicago style restaurants! The meats were hot and tender and served at a nice pace. I reccommend making reservations, they take it for parties of 4 or more. I came with a party of 4 and waited an hour and a half for a table, but then again I did not make reservations. The salad bar offered a variety of options for the *vegeatarians*. But the attraction for this place is most definitely the grilled meats. The price of $25 a person for dinner may seem pricey for the area but in Chicago it is $50 a person for dinner. You can definetly get your money's worth here. I highly reccommend the house special of the garlic beef picanha. As for ambience, the place is a little too dark. Pros: great food, good value Cons: , long wait more

Great Place 2/7/2004

As a Brazilian I would recommend this churrascaria. The meat (specially the picanha) is really tasteful. The waiters are very friendly and the salad bar offers some nice vegetables such as palm trees. more

Disappointment 2/4/2004

Service was very good, but having been to similar restaurant in Chicago the dining experience was disappointing. Had to request Lamb 4 times. All meats were very well done-over cooked. Atmosphere was lacking, it more close resembled a neighborhood bar rather than a finer dining experience. The side dishes were cold. more

Excellente! 2/3/2004

While considering a restaurant for a special family dinner recently, I remembered seeing ads for "Brazilian" steak houses during recent business trips. I recalled reading that such a "churrascaria" had opened in North Raleigh. We proceeded to Rio Churrascaria with some hesitancy having not experienced the cocept and left 2 1/2 hours later blown away by the experience! The atmosphere, while somewhat loud, got us in the mood for South American cuisine. The salad bar was excellent and the variety and presentation of the meat entrees was awesome. The bacon-wrapped filets and the pork ribs were exceptional. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Come hungry and allow adequate time to sample as many of the meat dishes as you can handle. BTW, the mango topped cheescake was delicious. Pros: excellent value, great atmosphere more

Excellent Restaurant! 1/4/2004

The food, service, and ambience at this restaurant were excellent. I highly recommend them! Pros: good food, good service, good ambience more

Broaden your eating horizons! 12/11/2003

Went there 12/6/03. Started off with great Bloody Mary @ the bar and had fun chatting with the two super nice bar-tenders. Sat at a lovely table for two and after loading up at the INCREDIBLE salad bar - were waited on hand and foot by the wonderful waitors with many different kinds of meat, cut and served to us at our table. We ate so much we could hardly walk. You really need to go here for an ADULT dining experience. All you can eat for $25/each! Come hungry, enjoy the bar, the food and the really nice atmosphere. We will be back and will bring friends next time! (maybe we can squeeze dessert in on our next visit!) Pros: really good service, extremely clean, delicious food Cons: no candles on table, none, none more

  • The Scene
Triangle denizens have reason to be overjoyed that a churrascaria--an upscale steakhouse not often found outside of Brazil--has made it to the Triangle. Lightly sponged walls, eclectic music and sophisticated furnishings turn any meal here into an elegant outing.

    The Food
The experience alone is worth the price, but it's the food that will bring you back. The salad bar teems with tantalizing items, including smoked salmon, sauces, inventive salads and smoky grilled vegetables. As soon as you're ready for the main course, flip your coaster-like "chip" from red to green. Meat runners--called passadors--glide through the restaurant carrying skewers of meats. Depending on the time of night, they might have over a dozen choices. The Brazilian specialty, picanha, is a dense, rich beef. Delicate filet mignon and top round slice as easily as butter, while bacon encases chicken and beef and tastes so good you'll be anxious for seconds.
