We had a clog in one of our pipes and when the service rep opened up the piping where he anticipated seeing the clog, saw that it was, in fact, quite clogged with grease, etc. So far so good, but then he recommended a fairly extensive overhaul of the piping at a cost of $3,600. When they showed me the final receipt, the price show approx. $4,000 but they added a fee for a service contract which, presumably gave us a discount off that price bringing it "down" to $3,600. One of the features of the service contract (along with preferred response to emergency calls) was a free examination of all of the plumbing in our house. This felt very much like a gimmick to look for more reasons to find work to do. The service guys were good and polite, but I definitely felt like I was taken advantage of with extra and over-charged work. If you use them, I'd recommend getting second or third opinions - that would have mitigated my situation but, at the time, I did make the decision to just get the work done quickly so that's on me.
