Closed! 1/26/2008

My husband and I were excited to try this place after checking out the other reviews. Well, it's closed and the space has been developed into condos. So, don't bother driving around looking for it. more

A-Mex done right. Great Burgers and Burritos. 11/20/2006

This little crowded burger stand on Walnut has been serving the masses for a lot of years. This is one of your ground beef burrito stands, so don't go there expecting authentic Mexican food. What you will find however, is an array of classic Pasadena cuisine. Burritos, Burgers, Tacos, Fries, and Shakes. The Spuderito is an interesting attention getter but I would recommend more of the French Bread Cheeseburger or a 'Combo E', a combination burrito with everything. (Tomatoes, Lettuce and Onion) Rick's hot sauce is great and goes well with their burritos and tacos and even on their fries. Their prices are still reasonable, the service quick, and the food good enough to keep this place packed at lunch and dinner, 7 days a week. Pros: Great American Burgers, Burritos, and Tacos 'To Go' Cons: Crowded at times. Parking is bad during peak times. Only a couple tables outside. more

Instantly satisfying Mexican American standards 9/4/2006

My boyfriend had been trying to drag me to the home of the ""Spudderito"" - a burrito-like concoction with cheddar cheese, french fries, and hot sauce - forever before I agreed to go. To be honest, it was one of the tastiest things I've yet to intake in Los Angeles, although I was confronted with about 2 hours of post-spudderito comatose from such a fatty lunch. Don't expect much atmosphere from this curb-side grease spot, but it you've got a rock hard stomach and just two bucks for lunch, you can't miss this ""institution"" for a quick fix. Pros: Comfort food, prices, service speed Cons: Atmosphere, food quality more

Help Save Ricks Drive In !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 7/31/2006

This place is a Pasadena Icon and is in danger of being shut down. The owner of the property that the restaurant is located on wants to build condos there and ricks is being forced to relocate or close. If your a fan....please help them find a new location and you can make suggestions at ricksdrivein. com or go by and show your support and enjoy a great meal. If you haven't been yet then you should go now!!!! You will be a fan after the first taste......everything is good. Pros: Everything Cons: They will be forced out of business soon without your help!!!!! more

Good food at a great price 5/1/2006

I'd seen Rick's for years, but until I recently took a job in the area, hadn't had the opportunity to try it out. Ordered a Spuderito, taco and a drink (for about $5) and was pleased overall. There's not much parking, and during the lunch rush, its a little slow, but I'd definitely go back again. more

great food & service 3/15/2005

great food served by great guys! There is a long line during the weekday lunch hour and late-night weekends. Pros: friendly, inexpensive Cons: little parking, outdoor, long line more

worth the drive 3/12/2003

It's so hard to find a decent hamburger joint these days that I still drive all the way from Whittier to Pasadena just to bite into Rick's burritos and fries. The hamburgers are always juicy, the tacos are always fresh, and the burritos will leave anyone's mouth satisfied. Beware - there is only outside seating, but it's still worth the trip to eat on your way home. If you happen to be in Pasadena and all the trendy restuarants are full or have rediculous waiting times head up to Rick's - it will be well worth it. Pros: great food, fast service, good value Cons: only outside seating more

So so 12/15/2002

Fantastic..........!!! Good eats For fast food great flavor..But parking sucks more

Burritos to drive for 10/30/2002

Rick's is an institution in Pasadena. A true hole in the wall taco stand that I have been eating at for over thiry years. They have a bean & cheese burrito with their special burrito sauce add their hot sauce and I am in burriot heaven. My wife and I often drive from Fontana just to get our burrito and taco fix at Rick's. It is definitely a one of a kind place in a state increasingly populated by corporate card board tasting chain stores. Pros: the american-mex food, Rick's unique sauce, the value more

Spud-erific 8/12/2002

By far, the best long distance drive to satisfy my needs! The Spuderito is definately something you must experience for yourself! The sauce has the perfect spice, the cheese is gooey good, the fries are just right, and the tortilla is fresh. Probably the best hole in the wall in Pasadena. The hamburgers, tacos, fries, and of course, the famous spuderito make it worth the trip! Pros: cheap, delicious, fast Cons: parking more

Spud-o-mine 7/25/2002

I could live on these forever. It sounds digusting, but it tastes good. Fries, cheese, salsa and tortilla all rolled into a burrito, if you live in the area you should try it. more

Eat Salad Other Days 7/19/2002

This is not the right place if you need to watch your cholesterol or weight. But if you can splurge this is the place to do it. The spuderito must be tried at least once. If that's too much starch in one package, the classic combo burrito is unbeatable. Pros: fast, friendly, delicious more

Spuda what? 7/8/2002

Rick's is THE place to get lunch in Pasadena. Its the ultimate in drive in nostalgia. The guys working there are always friendly, and always right in filling your order. The food: Great burgers, great tacos and burritos, milkshakes you only dream of, and then of course you have the Spudarito. A burrito made with French Fries instead of meat or beans. Try one and you'll be coming back for more. Also try the taco on a bun. A little messy, but mighty tasty. more

Spud it is 6/13/2002

The Spudirito is what caught my eye...the unique combination of french fries, salsa, cheese all in a tortia. Talk about a carbohydrate overload....The best part was it was cheap, a meal for a few dollars. more

Spudaritos Rule! 6/13/2002

This a low-scale cheap walk up diner, but it is cheap, cheap, cheap! And the Spudarito and the best thing on the menu. That is a french-fry, cheese, and hot sauce burrito. This is a cheap food place, so don't expect a fancy burger. But, you can get a good full meal for $3! Pros: Inexpensive, Spudarito! Cons: Cheap more

Nothing Special 5/29/2002

Rick's is a corner drive-through that looks like a local hamburger stand with promise. Unfortunately, the food does not live up to the look. The burger is fried, and lacks the complexity of a grilled hamburger. The fires were okay, not great. However, the meal as a whole was a super value, including a 32oz Coke, burger and fires for less than $5.00. If you are planning on going, may I suggest ordering a burrito as those appeared to be very popular. Cons: food more

Get the Spud! 5/20/2002

...the burgers are pretty good too but the thing that keeps me going back is the Spudirito. It's a french fry burrito that you simply have to try. Cheese, red sauce, tomatos and fries...you can add a little hot sauce too if you're so inclined. Definitely get the french fries with anything. I would also recommend the beef taco and the cheeseburger. It's all good stuff and cheap too! The place is basically a stand on a street corner so don't expect anything fancy, but they do have some tables for outdoor dining. Pros: cheap, fast, the spudirito Cons: outdoor only more

Cheap eats in Pasadena 5/16/2002

Rick's is a fun place to stop for lunch if you're in Pasadena. The burgers are a good choice if you're in the mood for something traditional -- they're good, and not too greasy. If you're in the mood to try something different, go for the spuderito, which is basically french fries wrapped in a tortilla with hot sauce and cheese. It tastes pretty good ... but more than anything, eating the spuderito is just a bite-after-bite state of wonder that such a menu item actually exists. more

Cheap and Good 5/16/2002

A good ol' fashion drive in/drive thru burger joint. The reason worth going? The Spuderito. It's made with their tasty fries smothered in their hot sauce and melted cheese wrapped in a large flour tortilla. A gooey mess that may sound strange at first, but worth trying at least once in your life. Another recommendation, their Cheeseburger Combo. So good. One tip: if you decide to go for lunch, get there a quarter to noon or after 12:30pm to avoid the lunch hour rush. Pros: Spuderito, Fries, Burgers Cons: Limited Parking, Limited Seating more
