I put 39 reels of old family 8mm film into the hands of the folks at Richmond Camera to transfer to DVDs, working through their branch in Midlothian.
The woman helping me at that branch, Moriah, was able to answer all my questions and concerns from her own knowledge or after a phone call to the lab, thoroughly described the various options they could offer me - sound track, menus, etc. - and told me how much each added feature would cost. When I left my films with her, I knew exactly what I would get back on the DVDs, about how long the transfer process would take, and how much it was going to cost me.
She also assured me that if the people working with my films had any questions, they wouldn't hesitate to call me......and they didn't. A few days after the lab had received my films, I received a call asking for clarification of an option I had chosen to include. That call relieved me considerably. They were obviously paying attention.
It's hard to put the only visual record you have of your family's past - people you love who have passed into an older age or another existence - into the keeping of a group of people you don't know. Richmond Camera did a great job transferring my dearest memories from aging film to a format that will extend their life span so another couple of generations will be able to see their past.
I'll be honest with you; I very nearly went into a good ol' southern belle swoon when I was told the cost! BUT, the results were well worth it and I do not hesitate to recommend them if you want high quality results when transferring your precious old films to a modern format.
