Rhodes Tavern North is a cozy restaurant and bar on Route 17 off exit 15 of the NYS Thruway. This place is a better choice for dining (lunch, dinner, late night) than the dreadful fast food in nearby Woodbury Commons.
Rhodes is the former site of a bait and tackle shop (there are signs to remind diners). But there's nothing fishy about this place. And their deep sea offerings are quite good.
Wide selection of appetizers (usual wings, mozzarella sticks, potato skins, steamed clams & mussels, etc. etc). Entrees range from the simplest like burgers, salads, chicken, ribs, pizza to Shrimp Scampi and a Porter House Steak for Two. There are also daily blackboard specials.
The bar is a friendly spot where locals meet after softball games and there is live music with some good bands. You can also eat food at the bar and the Bar Platter for 2 or more is perfect. A selection of assorted appetizer items just right for noshing.
The wait staff is pleasant and helpful in taking your order whether it be for dining in or takeout--they are right on the way home if you live anywhere near Monroe, Tuxedo, Harriman or Woodbury.
The owners go out of their way to come over to your table and ask how's it going--a nice touch, indeed.
A local place that's worth a visit.
