The Fire Museum of Texas is a great learning experience for kids and adults alike. There are old fire trucks that date back to the 1800s, an activity center where kids can learn fire safety in a little house, and the "world's largest fire hydrant," which is painted with dalmation spots. Kids can dress up in firefighter outfits and see where the firefighters sleep. The group tours are excellent and there's also a museum store. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 8 to 4.
