Editorial review from Citysearch 7/18/2013

New Manager turned this restaurant around - menu, service, everything. Now it is more a ""gourmet"" fare, with fully stocked bar, but still very family friendly, and the service is more than excellent. Any reviews prior to the new management and menu that you see you should toss. No longer applies! Get there and have a great experience. more

Worst Mexican Restaurant Ever!! 12/18/2011

The only reason I went to this restaurant was for a gift certificate for $50.00. We went on a Saturday night and they had maybe three tables seated! NO customers hmmmmmm. I had a frozen margarita which wasn't too horrible but the Rocks Lime was disgusting and when they say Texas they lie. We ordered cheese dip and guac and didnt get it until about 20 mins of sitting there and it wasnt any good. The salsa was about the only good thing they have. The nachos were nasty and the steak was worse. They got the orders wrong. They only had 2 servers and they were horrible. I had to give them 18% of our check and she wasnt worth 5%. Then on top of a horrible night I had to find out they ran my card twice for the same transaction. They are idiots dont go there it will ruin your love for mexican food. more

HORRIBLE!!!!!! 11/13/2011

I visited this restaurant due to having a restaurant com gift certificate. As soon as we walked in it had a ""weird"" smell and there was no one in there. For a Friday night I found that odd. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas and I would compare their margaritas to dish water. They tasted like watered down orange juice with a splash of cheap tequila. So we upgraded to the Texas margarita it was suppose to taste better. For a 26.00 pitcher it tasted like crap. THEN the food came and my husband ordered a steak burrito and got ground beef, our friend ordered a fajita quesadilla and got meat and sauce. I am still trying to determine what kind of meat they gave me on my taco... its mystery meat. Don't waste your money here! There are too many great Mexican restaurants in the area to go to instead. more

I want to like this place, but... 6/25/2011

...both our visits to Tipico have been bitter sweet. On one hand, the food was decent, the live music extremely entertaining, and the wait staff very friendly. On the other hand, in both visits, the kids' orders came out much later than the parents' orders. The first time, the kids didn't get their food for nearly an hour after the parents. On our second visit, the kids ordered burgers off the kids menu. Their orders did not come out until 20 minutes after we received our food. Even worse, the kitchen staff changed the burger orders to chicken sandwiches without notifying us or the waitress. To put this into context, we had different waitresses on both visits. Both waitresses wanted very much to help and yet could do nothing more than keep checking on the kids' orders. During our first visit, the restaurant was packed on a Friday night and the waitress explained there was confusion in the kitchen with so many orders to process. The second visit, exactly two weeks later, the restaurant was practically empty with only 3 tables, including ours. However, the kitchen explained to the waitress that fries take a long time to cook. Seriously? When the waitress checked on why the burgers were changed to chicken sandwiches, she was told by the kitchen they ran out of beef. Seriously? The waitress on the second visit remembered us from the first visit and felt horrible that we were experiencing this a second time. She did the absolute best she could about the food delay and apologized repeatedly for our experience. We were so patient, cordial, and even understanding that she was doing all she could. I requested to personally speak with the manager in the hopes our feedback would help them improve the kitchen situation and we could feel reassured things would improve. As she relayed the message to the manager on the other side of the room, he was visibly frustrated with her. I was extremely disappointed when the waitress returned to apologetically inform us the manager refused to come to our table. This made absolutely no sense. While waiting for our bill to return, I noticed the manager just standing around watching the television at the bar and never looking in the direction of our table. I decided to personally hand the signed receipt to the manager in an attempt to discuss our situation. At this point, the manager was patronizing, rude, dismissive, and insincere. I calmly explained our situation for both visits. He essentially blamed the waitress, the kitchen, the ordering company, and then blamed me for not understanding that he had other more important issues he was dealing with. Now realizing this manager was too arrogant to hear anything I had to say and represented everything wrong with the restaurant, I explained it was time for me to leave and that I will be sharing my experience online. He became more agitated and attempted to appease me by telling me I didn't know what I was talking about and did not understand his situation. Things escalated as I told him he needed to stop talking and that I was leaving. I then explained he was not qualified to manage a service related business and he needed to do this restaurant and the staff a favor by resigning. As much as I want to like this restaurant for the food, the staff, and the entertainment, I cannot recommend this place as long as this manager is with the restaurant. Should this change, I'll be more than happy to return and post a follow up review. more

Buford's Best Mexican Food!!!!! 11/4/2010

This is MUST GO TO RESTAURANT in Buford. Authentic mexican food, great service. Just south of 20 on hwy 23 on the west side. Easy to find,. Blows all other mexican restaurants in Buford- that are left- away. Great margaritas, and great suggestions from the waitress. You can choose regular tacos or authentic mexican - flat on corn tortillas...soft. GREAT!!! Their chili relleno was to die for. The best I have ever had in the states- even Texas!!!. I was sad to see the place was not crowded because everything was perfecdt. Thanks to my I phone, I searched for Mexican and it came up just south of 20. Go about 1/4 mile south on 23 from hwy 20 in Buford. So glad we found it. Can't say how good it was. Even the desert was good. Prices were fair and reasonable. No surprises. BUFORD WAKE UP... TIPICO MEXICANO is the best!!!!! more
