Editorial review from Citysearch 10/4/2013

We had our whole house repiped with pex pipe and, best I can tell, they did a good job with that. (Only complaint regarding their work is that they retextured a whole wall and two whole ceilings, in two rooms, when all they were suppose to do is retexture the immediate area around the holes in the wall. The problem was that we had to repaint the whole wall and whole ceiling in both rooms which meant several hours of work repainting for us.) But my complaint here is with Sam, the man who runs the whole operation. (There are, at least, 2 Sams who work for Repipe1.) If you use Repipe1 watch out for his trap. He mislead us and tried to make us believe we owed $8000 when in reality we had a written quote, from Chris, for $5650 for the repipe inside of the house, and an unwritten quote, phone quote, from Chris for $800 for repiping from the street to the house. This adds up to $6450. The problem is this: If you want to use their ""free"" 6 month financing, they have you sign a loan from a bank (Wells Fargo) for $8000. So Wells Fargo pays repipe1 $8000 and then you pay back Wells Fargo after 6 months. But, the trick is Repipe1 already has their (YOUR) money and if they overcharged you (as they did with us) then you're in the position of having to try to get your own money back from them! What a trick! When we first noticed, after the job was done, that we owed (Wells Fargo) $8000, we contacted Repipe1 and asked when we'd get the difference back ($1550). At first Sam swore he had a written estimate for $6550 and that combined with $1450 (which he claimed we owed for the outside piping) came out to exactly $8000! How convenient for them. I told Sam I'd like to see his written estimate for $6550 but he refused to show it to me. (Because he didn't have one, of course.) Then I told him the secret I had been holding back from him, that we still had our written estimate (from Chris)! Sam said he wanted to see it so I faxed him a copy. After that he knew I had him and agreed to give us $800 refund. But, he told me that the $800 estimate Chris gave us over the phone (for the outside work) wasn't valid since it wasn't in writing (even though I talked to Chris on the phone again and he told me yes he did give me a quote for $800). I told him Chris gave me the phone quote as a guarantee but Sam wouldn't give in, nor would he even accept HIS OWN EMPLOYEE's word. So I told Sam to refund me $1000 and I'd go away. So he agreed. But, when we got the $1000 refund check in the mail, Repipe1 made a mistake and also included an in-house memo which said they ""had made a mistake and overcharged the customer by $1550 and that amount was being refunded to the customer"". Quote, unquote. They never meant for us to see that note. Someone, maybe Sam, is skimming money of the top. So I called and talked to Sam again. Though I had this undeniable evidence (their won words!) they owed us more money (another $550) he refused to send me back my money. So in essence Sam stole $550 from us. I seriously thought about taking them to small claims court where it would be a slam-dunk case, but small claims is a lot of hastle with forms to fill out and other time-consuming steps and in the end they only give a ruling but don't actually collect the money. So I decided it's not worth my time. But, watch out for this trick if you use their ""free"" financing. \r \r more
