highlight of our trip 5/9/2010

My good friend and I were in town for a couple days for a concert. We happened upon Relish and decided to stop in just to try their famous fried black eyed peas (which were featured on Food Network's ""best thing I ever ate""). At most restaurants, if you sit at a bar and order a beer and a small appetizer, you're lucky if you get a minute of the server's attention because you're not fixin to run up a big bill. First of all, the black eyed peas were all they promised to be... then our Awesome server/bar tender, John, insisted that we try a dish that will be featured on tv (fried cheese in panko bread crumbs and pepper jelly) and brought us out some samples. oh. my. god. DELICIOUS. even the beer was delicious! and his cucumber Bourbon lemonade! yum! we were expecting to sit at the bar and be in and out. Instead, I felt like we were visiting old friends! A quick snack turned into an experience and a part of the trip I won't soon forget. Anyone who gave this place a bad review must have been at a different place, because this was the best restaurant experience I have ever had. Beautiful town, good food, some of the nicest people around..... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Pros: awesome food, awesome beer, and the best service I ever had Cons: when I want to visit again, I gotta drive 10 hrs from Miami! more

Great Selections and Flavor 5/6/2010

Unique southern cuisine. Great appetizers, reasonable entrees and if you are a dessert person, you might have a problem deciding not which, but how many. Pros: creative and diverse wine list Cons: none, that I noticed more

Terrible 4/23/2010

Our first impression wasn?t a great one. We didn?t have a reservation but decided to take our chance anyway. We were told the wait was 20 inside and 40 minutes for the patio which was fine so we put our name down for first available. We decided to sit at the bar and have a drink while we waited and told the hostess to call us when our table was ready. We sat at the bar for 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged our existence after trying desperately to get their attention. Finally order our drinks, she handed my wife her wine and I waited for my drink. Ten minutes later I finally asked where my drink order was, she forgot. Ordered some appetizers which were ok but nothing to write home about. After well over an hour we decided to close out, we were never called for our table. Friends that were there said the food was horrible, probably a good thing we did leave. Pros: Can't think of any Cons: Everything more

DON'T BOTHER 4/19/2010

The menu items are paired creatively- but the great expectation never materializes. Everything was bland; no taste. Both of us were very disappointed and will not return. Although the wait staff was friendly and attentive- the receptionist was actually rude. Not something we normally find in Roswell. Cons: Bland food more

great Salads....huge deck Pros: Relish Salad, Fried Green Tomato Salad more

Best crab cake sandwich! 2/7/2009

This is the best crab cake sandwich I have ever had! I am a huge fan of the fried pimento cheese, and love the Southern Belle martini. We have dined here several times and had the pleasure of having Travis as our server, he is great! I highly recommend Relish, it has great food and is a nice setting. more

Good drinks and desserts, lousy entrees 9/28/2008

Nothing to write home about. It's loud when the place is full and my server wasn't very attentive. The desserts are GREAT (Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding) and the appetizer (Pimento Cheese things) was good. My entree was mediocre as was everyone else's at my table. Pros: Desserts, Drinks Cons: Entrees more

Horrible Food & Rude Service 6/24/2008

I recently dined with a friend at Relish for lunch. I had read the Piedmont Review Publication ""Atlanta's Finest Dining Magazine,"" Spring Issue, and they highly recommended Relish for their food. I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed my friend and I were with our lunch. We have eaten at Relish's sister restaurant, Fickle Pickle, regularly for the last two years, and have NEVER been disappointed. Our waitress was prompt at taking our drink orders. My friend ordered the cucumber lemonade which never came. Our first course was the pimento fritters which were tasty but had a piece of saran wrap in one. A waiter brought our next course: grouper sandwich and pulled pork sandwich. We pointed out the saran wrap that we found in the fritters, and he said he was sorry. The manager came to our table, apologized and deducted the fritters from our ticket. I mentioned about the forgotten cucumber lemonade, and he personally brought it . Regarding the sandwiches: The buns were dry and tasteless. The grouper was undercooked and tasteless. The sweet potato fries were cold and soggy. We decided dessert had to be good so we went with the recommendation of the magazine reviewer and requested the bread pudding. The waitress brought the bill before our dessert arrived which we felt was quite rude. The dessert arrived cold. I asked the waitress if the dessert was supposed to be cold. She said they heat it but didn't seem to care if it was cold. I detailed some of our experience on a comment card and left it with the manager. Needless to say, we will never return. Cons: Noisy, Rude Service, Bad food, Expensive for what you get more

Good Food, Poor Customer Service 6/14/2008

We went to relish for my birthday and the food was good, but our server was snobby and and very unfriendly to us. The second time we went, we asked to sit on the patio and they refused to seat us because there was a ""storm on the radar."" There was not a cloud in site! Instead we took our business elsewhere where they allowed us to sit outside (it never rained). I will not be returning to this restaurant. Pros: Good twist on Southern favorites Cons: snooty attitude, poor customer service more

Well, Just Slap-O My Piemento Cheese Fritters! 5/2/2008

Being a Southerner, I'm always looking for new takes on Southern Cuisine. And living in the city, it's always JCT Kitchen or South City Kitchen. But a friend told me about this place that makes Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding, That's all I needed, and I headed up to Roswell, off the square, and I'll be dang, the Roswell Funeral Home, is now a restaurant, serving southern, like never before. It was lunch time, we were thirsty, and the Freshly Squeezed Cucumber Lemonade, had our names written on the glasses. Just perfect. But that menu of apps, was so inviting, we did not know where to begin. But the Piemiento Cheese Fritters w/pepper jelly, led the way. Growing up, we always had little containers of relish, home-made of course, sitting on the table. So a home-made relish is paired with all these yummy beginnings. Those fritters disappeared, but not before the Fried Oysters w/green tomato tatare sauce came to the table, and we split those also. I judge a restaurant by it's soups., and the Crab & Corn Chowder was sublime. How could I eat my entree salad, well I did, and the Blackened Shrimp Caesar was great with little ""grit-ons"". Don't ask, if you can't figure that out. My luncheon date, had the Smoked Trout Salad with home-made Vidalia Onion Dressing. Still hungry? Well, we did come here for just the Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding w/expresso cream. Well Flo was not our server, but the lady was too darn nice, and we will be back, after a trip to Weight Watchers. It was worth every calorie! Pros: Wonderful New Southern w/Home-Made Relishes! Excellent Service! Cons: My Friend Had To Drive Me Home! Just Delicious! more
