Inpatient rehabilitation services
Inpatient Rehabilitation Services is a multidisciplinary department consisting of the inpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapy departments of East Alabama Medical Center. The rehabilitation professionals of Inpatient Rehabilitation Services participate in a multidisciplinary team approach to return patients to optimal functioning.
Physical Therapy
The physical therapy staff participate in rehabilitation of orthopaedic, cardiac, renal, pediatric, oncology, wound care and skilled nursing patients, to name a few. In addition to the usual exercise and gait training, the physical therapy team provides balance retraining, wound care, and treatment of acute and chronic pain.
Occupational Therapy
Our occupational therapy team evaluates and treats patients throughout the facility. The focus of occupational therapy is functional rehabilitation of patients in order to increase independence with home, work, and leisure activities.
Speech Therapy
The speech therapy team provides not only rehabilitation of deficits related to speech, but also cognitive retraining and safety awareness, as well as problems related to feeding/swallowing difficulties. The largest patient groups seen by the speech therapy team are geriatric and stroke patents; our therapists treat patients in both impatient and outpatient settings.
Outpatient Services
East Alabama Medical Center also offers a variety of rehabilitation services on an outpatient basis through RehabWorks, which has facilities in Opelika and Auburn. For more information, call RehabWorks at 334-528-1964 (Opelika) or 334-821-2733 (Auburn).
