RS did an awersome remodel job and the bar is beautiful. The crowd was upscale, educated, and friendly. Great music fit the atmosphere with downtempo beats. Pros: Enviroment, Music, drink prices Cons: Not enough bar staff more

BAD experience 2/19/2010

Four of us dined here based on reviews. I can't beleive it's the same restaraunt. We were seated 1 hour after our reservation time. Three out of four sent their steaks back. (the Red Sqaure Bistro version of Strohganoff). Pros: location Cons: Food, service, attitude more

Not Impressed 2/1/2010

There was a general lack of flavor. The portions were small.Food a little undercooked and cold.My friends short ribs were tough. We got there at opening, and the food took forever. Pros: Liked the interior Cons: Small Portions more

Excellent! 9/4/2009

The maitre d ' was exceptionally gracious and hospitable. For appetizers: Pelmeni and garlic vodka. Delicious. Then more vodka - red pepper (spicy!), dill, and horseradish (oof!). Our entrees (beef and fish) were perfectly cooked, with the only negative being very stringy leeks with the fish. The sauces were full of flavor but not overly salty, as some other reviewers have found. For dessert, the banana crepe was very tasty. Not the best cup of coffee I've ever had, but not awful. The service was attentive, friendly, and helpful. Definitely place I'll come back to. Pros: Vodka (of course), and surprisingly elegant food Cons: ? more

Great service, atmosphere and cocktails! 8/4/2009

went for my brother's bday and had a fab time. the waiter was russian, very knowledgeable about both food and drink, and offered great suggestions. I would suggest this for any special occasion. Pros: vodka of every flavor, honey is my fav Cons: turns into a night club type place after 10pm more

Welcome to the Square! 5/18/2009

I've been to red square numerous times and I thought it finally time to write a view. The food here is phenomenal and its almost a diamond in the rough with every place there is to go in Denver. They have daily dinner specials and that absolutely rock in price, presentation, and taste. Try their charcuterie plate. Now this is one of the few places that infuses their own vodkas in house weekly, not to mention they have some of the best ones i've had. Try their grapefruit and horseradish, its incredible. Max is one amazing bartender and really knows his vodka and service. The weekends are pretty insane there but how can it now be, apparently everyone is catching on. If you want great food, excellent vodka, and a very upbeat crowd then look no further. Welcome to the Square. Pros: One of the best bars in Denver Cons: Weekends, but you can't win them all. more

Fantastic European Food and Great Service with Atmosphere‎ 3/10/2009

Unlike the pretentious tone of some downtown restaurants - The Red Square is refreshing and warm with great atmosphere and attentive staff. Complement this with its delightfully delicious menu served with crusty traditional European bread and you have a fabulous Denver resto tucked into a cozy corner of Writers Square. Our friendly waiter and host made us feel like we were family with excellent service. Once you're there, try some infused vodka before your meal. I like mine served straight up as a martini. Fig infused vodka, although it sounds a bit strange, is flavorful and delicious. You'll feel you've taken a trip back to your favorite European city...Actually, my boyfriend and I will be taking another trip to Russia very soon and it's only a couple blocks away... Pros: Ambience, Infused Vodka, Great European Bread, Attentive Staff Cons: Nothing, go see for yourself more

Are these people trying? 2/11/2009

I have wondered if these people are trying to run a business and for whom does it work. There was a bartender with salt and pepper hair who seemed to have some pride in what he did who made the place enjoyable. The food was also better then, maybe he cooked as well. Since then the staff seems to be concerned with cigarette breaks, frowning, little effort, and watching the time go by. I like the decor except the 6 month bathroom remodel, and the vodka, but at this point in the economy go where someone wants you, and has good food as well. These folks should disband - the frowns and lethargy may be contagious. more

Great vodka selection 12/28/2008

The food is good, the atmosphere is good, but the vodka and inexpensive bottle prices are the main reason to hang out here. Located in the middle of Writer's Square, Red Square is a nice place to enjoy some vodka served by people who know how to serve it best. more

Just Bad 11/23/2008

I hate this place. The owner is totally rude. (he has been rude to me multiple times when I have come in there) The food is mediocre at best. The vodka, which is supposed to be the main focus of the restraunt, is something you could buy on the corner liquor store. I have tried it over and over and I am giving up. Just go somewhere else, Denver has to many great restraunts to waste your time on this place. Pros: Nothing more

BEST SERVICE & FOOD IN TOWN 11/13/2008

We started frequenting the Little Russian Cafe and migrated over to Red Square when it opened. We absolutely love the staff, the ambiance, the food & the vodka. We have never experienced the kind of personal attention and wonderful service as we get every time we go in here. We keep introducing new people and everyone we take in loves the place. We have NEVER had a bad meal and have tried just about everything on the menu. Anyone who has given this place a bad review needs to go elsewhere and make room for those who love this place as much as we do! Pros: Variety of Vodka, Excellent menu, Superb service Cons: Occupancy is limited and bar gets noisy more

Vodka 8/20/2008

There are many different options for vodka here. Flavors I would never have dreamt of, garlic, etc. It's interesting and fun to try the different options. The food is very European but heavy (big German influence). It's a place you go once but not someplace that is on my list to return. more

Seriously good food 5/1/2008

My boyfriend and I love this place. We have been there three years in a row for Valentine's Day. The menu is a bit small, but we haven't had a bad dish yet. The steak stroganoff sounds like a weird idea, but trust me- it is fantastic. In addition, the service is always good. Pros: great food Cons: small menu more

Just okay 4/30/2008

I chose this place because it looked interesting, but the service was so bad I didn't stick around One thing that really bugged me about it was I had to ask for more vodka and the bartender acted like he was doing me a favor by serving me. When I got up to use the restroom I came back to my seat at the bar and the bartender had piled up dirty glasses and dishes in front of my stool and made no effort to move these as I sat back down, so I drank my vodka quickly and left. I headed over to 1515 on Market and was treated like a king there. Too bad I really like the horseradish infused vodka but I doubt I'll go back, the service was so bad I didn't bother to try the food. After reading all the bad reviews here it doesn't sound like I missed anything. more

Best bar in Denver 4/29/2008

The Red Square is a classy little "Euro bistro" tucked away in the corner of Writer's Square. All of their vodka infusions, especially the pineapple, are delicious!! They look and taste innocent but pack a p unch- they don't kick in right away, so watch out or you'll be stumbling home. These shots are best sipped, not shot! The setting is intimate and the crowd is relaxed and friendly. The Red Square is a gem! Pros: Ambiance, vodka Cons: Pricey more

Fun atmosphere, ok service, food was lacking 2/25/2008

Dined here for restaurant week. The selections look fabulous on the menu. Pros: Very cute location, ambiance was great Cons: food was sub-par more

Over salted and fell below expectations 2/12/2008

We were disappointed. The menu had some interesting plusses - the borscht was very good and the lemon tart for dessert was okay (almost too tart). The main entrees were both over salted and over sauced, not to mention that I ordered duck and received chicken, and it was left on the bill. It's a cute atmosphere though, & the waiter was very nice in spite of the screw up, but overall it just fell short of expectations. Pros: jazz music, some neat traditional Russion dishes Cons: use of salt in the food - overkill more

Not quite there 11/8/2007

My boyfriend and I where out on a date night and decided to try something new. We had read good things about The Red Square. The atmosphere was cozy and the service was friendly. The servers where celebrating Russian Halloween as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Pros: Vodka Selection Cons: Food more

A Wonderful Restaurant tucked away in Downtown Denver 9/6/2007

I was introduced to it last fall by my boyfriend. Depending on which side of the restaurant you choose to sit, you get a completely different experience. The left barside is a lively vodka bar and on the right side dining area you experience a small Russian bistro. I love the salmon stroganoff, the mustard based salad dressing, and the wonderful bread. Oh, the vodka selection is amazing when you are in the mood for a good vodka shot or an entire carafe of vodka to share. I really love the Red Square, is is delicious, romantic, and lively. Pros: Wonderful food, vodka bar, the bread is amazing, service is wonderful, very romantic more

Great food at very reasonable prices, and fun too! 8/6/2007

My husband and I just moved to LoDo, and were anxious to try Red Square, as we walk by it all the time. So we made a reservation, and as soon as we walked in the door, we knew we had discovered a special place. The staff was courteous and professional without being stuffy, and they were all smiling and happy--a sign of a good restaurant in my book. We had heard about the house-made flavored vodkas, so we started our meal with shots of raspberry vodka: delicious! As for the food, for appetizers I had the goat cheese and tomato salad, the perfect combination of fresh tomato and warm, comforting goat cheese drizzled with balsamic dressing. My husband had the scallops, which were seared to perfection and came with artichoke hearts and crispy garlic. We had a tough time deciding on our entrees, as everything on the menu looked good. I finally chose the salmon, and my husband went for the duck. Our waiter helped us pick out a great bottle of wine to go with our meal. My salmon was fabulous, and my husband enjoyed his duck, although it was bit rich and heavy for the hot summer weather. We were too full to order dessert, but the table next to us had a lemon tart that looked amazing--we can't wait to go back and try it! The only negative thing we experienced was that toward the end of our meal, the bar started to get quite full and noisy--it was a Friday night, after all, but if we had made our reservation for earlier, that wouldn't have been a problem. Overall, we had a great meal with great wine, and didn't cringe when the bill came; everything was very reasonably priced. We will definitely go again! Pros: Good food, good prices Cons: Rowdy bar crowd more
