Red Fez Rocks 4/10/2006

Yes, it's a wonderful, chill, yummy place for drinks and/or dinner. I used to work right by it, and sometimes I'd have dinner by myself on their patio. I've also taken groups of friends there for casual summertime outings. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. Being right on Washington St makes for great people-watching. The environment is really laid-back--I'd highly recommend Red Fez if you are looking for some cool summer nights... more

The Red Fez 2/14/2006

I just loved the Red Fez on Washington Street in the South End. For one, the atmosphere is great. Not so ultra hip that you feel out of place, but not shabby or dingy either. It's very nice inside, warm, mellow, dark...love the whole vibe they have going on with the chill out house music they play at night in the bar. They also have free valet parking and a great patio in the warmer months. I was impressed by their food, I ordered the Seared Scallops Basil and Red Bell Pepper Concassé for $10 with a $2 side of rice pilaf and made a dinner from it. My husband ordered the Grilled Kefta Ground Lamb and Beef, Cumin Yogurt Sauce and Rice for $16. We loved both meals - excellent. For drinks, I had a few of their delicious (and potent!) raspberry margarita's, and my husband had a few martinis that he also enjoyed. We returned a second time with friends for drinks and dessert in the bar, which was also a great evening. We split the Red Fez Cookie tray with Ma’Mul, Burma, Date and Fig Ma’mul, a slice of fruity cheesecake, and the Espresso Rum Cake. I was surprised that cookies and cake could taste so good. It was nice to have something different to, you can't find Ma’Mul, Burma, Date and Fig Ma’mul just anywhere! Their port selection is great, we had a Offley Tawny Colheita Vintage 1985 and a Ramos Pinto 20 yr Tawny, both were a yummy and made for a very happy ending. Not exactly Middle Eastern food 9/8/2005

A charming restaurant to hang out with friends. Very pretty interior decor but the food is more questionable. Though the restaurant is supposed to be Middle Eastern/Moroccan, the dishes they carry on the menu look rather generic (i.e. Steaks, Salmon) rather than exotic. I'd recommend to go to Argana if you are looking for something closer to Moroccan and Middle Eastern. Overall the food tasted alright but a bit pricey for what it is. Never tried the brunch but I heard they have live band playing during their Sunday brunch. Enjoy! more
