Outstanding Chinese Food with Great Ambiance & Service 9/2/2010

My cousin and I stopped in on Monday. Neither of us had eaten here although we've eaten at most of the other Wynn/Encore properties. It's considered one of Wynn's casual dining restaurants but there is nothing casual about the food they serve or the service. The restaurant decor was a nice mix of traditional and contemporary. Waiter was helpful and friendly. First the soup. Waiter recommended sharing the special shrimp wonton soup. Quite literally the best wontons I've every had. Do not miss it. Order one bowl for a table of 4 (seriously, it's that big). Then we went with a sichuan prawn dish that was just spicy enough and the prawns were perfect in size and exquisitely prepared. But the winning dish was the assorted barbeque platter, Cantonese Duck, Poached Chicken and normally barbeque pork but we substituted spare ribs. This dish is 26 dollars but just the duck was worth that. The poached chicken was amazing as well and the spare ribs, well lets just say I almost shed a tear when I could not finish the last one. Of course totally full but we looked at the desert menu and sure enough, there's sliced papaya. Perfect. Papaya is known to aid digestion (which it did) and it was perfectly ripe and totally delicious. All in all a great meal served with style and humor in a lovely atmosphere. 5 stars for sure. more

My Favorite Asian Restaurant 3/10/2010

Vegas has some incredible restaurants, and Red 8 is definitely in the top for me. My husband and I live in Vegas, and we eat here at least twice a week! I love the ambiance of this lounge/restaurant; it is so beautiful with the red couches and decor, and it is very chill and relaxing. I love the dim sum, and if you like noodles, give the penang style flat rice noodles a shot! Everything I have tried on the menu is fantastic, if you have never tried this place, I would definitely recommend it! Pros: Great Food! Cons: wish they took reservations more

Disappointed, a bit overpriced 5/2/2009

a bit overpriced for the food... i had the lunch special of Thai Basil Beef for $18.88 with the spring roll and a dumpling (potsticker). The beef was good but the dumpling and the spring roll were very MEDIOCRE for the price. I was a bit disappointed when one of our two dim sum orders, fried mixed dumplings came cold. Not only was it $6 (double the price of dim sum at a regular Chinese restaurant) but I sent it back and they probably microwaved it hot since it was the same 3 pieces with the one that I had cut in half with my chopstick. The Fried Taro Cake was good but for $6, nothing too SPECIAL. My friend's Chicken Fried Rice tasted like Young Chow chicken fried rice (fried rice without soy sauce)... and for $15... i think that's a lot more than what friend rice should tastes like. Also, $5 for Coke is an outrage! more

dissapointed... 4/26/2007

Ive been reading really good reviews about this place so when i arrived in vegas I made sure to go , which also seemed convenient since the last coule times i went the wynn was the hotel i never went into. We got there and the bus boys were great they even offered to take our picture without us asking us, but the server seemed cold and distant. Our food arrived really quick I had the bbq pork in maple sauce somehting like that it was good but it was nothing spectacular, i could have gotten something better at chinatown!!! I was in the mood for some dessert but the server took forever to come back to us and mind you there were only 3 groups at the restaurant and there were 4 servers roaming around. I think this place is overpriced for the food quality and service. go to PF chang's if you want a not so chinatown atmosphere but still with good food. Pros: its in the wynn Cons: food was mediocre and the service ws not that great more

Best pot-stickers in town 3/8/2007

We were wandering through the beautiful Wynn Resort and Casino when we found the Red 8. The menu looked good and thesmells were calling us in. I am a fairly fussy eater but I found much that I could enjoy. My wife had no trouble picking out her selections. The food was great and the service was too. The pot-stickers were our favorite. We enjoyed this restaruant so much we went back again 2 nights later. Next time we're in Vegas can you guess one stop that we'll make? The Red 8! Pros: Great tasting food servrd fast and hot Cons: our stomachs weren't big enough for a second round more

Authentic really! 12/26/2006

We dined here because the buffet was a 3 hour wait. I am chinese and I was a little skeptical at first since this is a chinese restaurant in a western establishment. I was hungry and decided to give it a try. When I first saw the menu it had chinese characters so I thought to myself, 'ok maybe it won't be so bad'. For drinks I got the Thai Ice Tea (FYI, it was $5) which was too sweet. We ordered the crab yee mein and the braised beef stew. It was very delicious and most importantly authentic. The food tasted just like the ones you would find in San Gabriel, Alhambra, etc... However, being in Vegas the prices are different. For desert we had mango sago which paked a lot of mango flavor as well as mango pieces. Everything was really delicious. Pros: Authentic, Ambience Cons: Price more

Great food, excellent service 11/21/2006

I have eaten at Red 8 a few times and have always been pleasantly surprised. Very attentive service and everything I have tasted has been excellent. The prices are also pretty reasonable (for The Strip) and the restaurant has longer hours than most of this quality so I would definitely recommend stopping by. Pros: Great food, perfect service more

Good eats... 7/14/2006

My girlfriend and I went to Red 8 because it was convenient for us since we were staying at the Wynn. We were seated immediately and enjoyed a very good lunch. It was $50 for the two of us which is kinda spendy for lunch but your in Vegas so that's about normal. I recommend the duck with plum sauce and the the tofu pork dish. Pros: Atmosphere, Food, Prompt seating Cons: next to noisy casino more

Great Taste admidst the hottest casino 4/17/2006

It was late at night and every restaurant apart from cafes with long queues in the city of sin was closed, then appeared this gem, smelling just like home cooking in singapore. We had the scallion pancakes, BBQ pork and Pad Thai (oustanding) and it almost reminded me of being at a hawker center back home. Highly recommended. Pros: Open Late, Authentic Asian Food, People watching more

Great Place!!!!! 12/1/2005

To begin with this place looks amazing from outside and in. The restaurant is on a first come first serve basis my husband and I had to wait for about thirty min. which was right about right with the estimated time the hostess had given us. So we had an idea what to expect. Once in the waiter was great he explained to us some of the items on the menu . He recommended the pot stickers and some satays to begin with and for the entree the Mongolian Beef and the chicken phai thai which was delicious as well as their amazing pinapple mojito . Had great service and once we were leaving was said goodbye to which made us felt like we were welcomed! The prices are reasonable. The food comes in a good size serving enough to share for two . Really recommend it!! Pros: Resonable Cons: Expect a wait more

One Annoying Situation but Great Foods! 8/8/2005

We waited for more than 30 mins before we were seated, while there were plenty of empty tables in the restaurant. The waitress who took our name for the seat was extremely rude and unprofessional. Everyone that were waiting in line were unhappy with the long wait and asked the waitress of what's going on. She told the customers that they didn't have any choice but to wait (again, while the restaurant was about 60% occupied and there were almost 20 people waited outside) Fortunately, the waiter in the restaurant was really polite and understanding. When we told him that we're really hungry and requested the meals to be served ASAP, he delivered his word. Foods were great. Note to Red 8: Start allowing customers to make a reservation! more
