I've been going to Rainier Family Eye Care for quite a few years now. I've been Dr Kim's patient since she was on Steilicoom and Bridgeport. I don't know why I stayed so long. She lost us as a customer because of recent events, but I've had issues for a long time now. Let me tell you about what happened recently. I took my son to see her when he was 3. I took him in because his pediatrician and his preschool teacher had mentioned that there might be something wrong with his vision. She said his sight was normal. I took him in again when he was 4 and 5 because the pediatrician had recommended it again, for the same reason. She did full exams, and assessed that he was slightly farsighted, but it was normal for kids his age. If we gave him corrective lenses, it would hamper his natural ability to correct his vision. 6 months after his 5 year old eye exam, I got a note home from his school, recommending that I have my son's eyes examined because he failed the school eye exam. I took him in again, with the note, and she gave him a prescription for + 2.50 in both eyes. Even though I felt like they shouldn't have charged me for that last exam because I felt like Dr. Kim had made a mistake, I paid my portion that day and let them bill my insurance again. A month later, I got a bill in the mail for $17.00. I called to say that I have a second insurance they can bill for the remainder. The first receptionist told me that it was against policy to take secondary insurance. I asked why and she was trying to explain. The other receptionist got on the phone told me in a rude manner that they don't take secondary insurance because they tend not to pay, but after I pay the bill, I can bill my insurance and they will reimburse me. That was not the policy last year when I had used two insurances to pay for my exam. Or the year before that, or the year before that, and my second insurance has never neglected to pay them. That isn't the first time I have felt like they were rude, but it will be the last. I took my son in a few times after he got his glasses because he was saying they made his eyes water. Both times the receptionist said he had not been wearing his glasses long enough. I had my son go to another optometrist. Yesterday he did the full exam. He said, ""It would seem your son has had an astigmatism for a long time now, and his eyes won't see 20/20 because it was neglected to be corrected, even with his new glasses."" We have to have him seen in 6 months to see how his eyes are doing. She RUINED my son's vision. Possibly permanently. I took the new prescription in to her office, and had the receptionist take a copy so she could show the doctor. I never got a call to apologize for her mistake. I never got any offer of reimbursement for the new glasses we have to buy and eye exams the insurance won't cover because he has met his plan limit. I am fuming mad, and I have filed reports with both my insurance companies, and I will be filing one against her with the state board.
