Ver noisy and expensive 9/5/2008

I just got back from a show at the Puck. It was very hard to enjoy the music. The crowd noise drowned out the music. Everyone is put on a tab for food and/or drinks with a credit card. At the end of the night you can pay your tab with your credit card or cash. I think they put everyone on a tab so you don't see how expensive the drinks are. My gin & tonics cost $11.00 a drink. Also, the place is so small that people are constantly running into you. They have everyone seated one on top of the other. It's a shame, the place is a novel idea and would be enjoyable if run properly. Pros: Good location, great artists Cons: Too expensive, cramped seating, crowd noise drowns out the music, drinks are too expensive more

Good music, food and drinks. 4/29/2008

Great acts, but sometimes the patrons are too noisey and take away from the musicans. Food was great, loved the Roast beef sandwich. Drinks are a bit pricey, but are everywhere there is entertainment. Outdoor bar looks interesting, never went to it yet. Pros: Great entertainment, in a cozy environment. Cons: Can be loud from the other patrons, which can distract from the shows. more

Really has changed for the best 8/14/2007

Puck started out a bit on shakey ground, but has greatly improved. The sound inside is fantastic, and with only about 100 seats and a small bar, it's one of the very best places I've been to, to hear great local and some national acts. The patio is the best in Doylestown, a bunch of great beers on tap, ( 10?).\r \r Staff has changed a bit, probably for the better. Wednesday night is free and open mic night, mostly good singers/musicans - a few duds. They have a new pork sandwich that is actually very tasty.\r \r Overall, much better than earlier on, good beer selection, really really great sound room. Pros: Small, great sound, interesting music genres Cons: sometimes too crowded more

Stick to the outdoor bar, stay away from the food 3/19/2007

Puck is pretty cool inside, but the outdoor bar is what keeps this place alive (for me anyway) The outside is very nicely decorated and they have several propane heat lamps and a couple outdoor fireplaces, all of which make a very cozy atmosphere- even in the winter months. I've been inside, but like the other reviewer said, it's a bit of a letdown. I would give this place an 7or 6, but the sandwich I ordered was so terrible and so overpriced that I have to bring it down to a 5... On the menu, the sandwich sounded very gourmet and delcious (roastbeef on a roll with some kind of special horseradish sauce), and at around $10, I expected a quality sandwich. What I ended up getting was worse than something at 711... The meat was EXTREMELY tough and salty, the bread was hard, and the horseradish sauce was junk. I told the waitress and she just shrugged and said ""sorry."" Just because this place is in Doylestown they think they can serve low-grade food at high prices. Pregame a bit at the outdoor bar and then make your way elsewhere. Pros: Great Outdoor Bar, Live Music inside Cons: Horrible and pricey food, drinks a bit on the high side more

Don't bother 11/14/2006

I was extremely disappointed with this venue. It is a great space with lots of potential; however, the obnoxious crowd makes it an unbearable place to watch live music. I think I heard more sidebar conversations than actual music--it was very frustrating. People show absolutely no respect toward the musicians, and management does nothing to correct the problem. It is definitely not worth the trek to Doylestown to see live music.\r \r The food is average and the drinks are overpriced. The staff is a mixed bag--some of the servers are very gracious and helpful, but others are stand-offish and cold.\r \r I would not recommend going to Puck. With so many other great music venues in the Philadelphia area, this is one that can be bypassed. Trust me, you won't miss anything. Pros: Intimate place to see live music Cons: Obnoxious crowd more
