Humane Pork and Beef from happy animals! 6/19/2010

When I want to buy humane, prepackaged meats, I hop on BART and go to Prather Ranch. Everything they sell is certified humane, the selection of sausage selection is great and priced between $7-$9, the bacon is delicious, and you can get larger cuts of meat too. Selection can be spotty, as their supplies are delivered only once every two weeks. So, call ahead if you're looking for something specific. Pros: Only Certified humane meat is sold! Cons: Selection can be spotty. more

now I have to watch things, I guess. 9/14/2009

I just found out something disturbing about this company. I was offered to give my dog spoiled meat because as the guy said ""dogs have a different metabolism as humans"". Yes, very true, but I would never give my dog spoiled meat either. I was even happy to see that they had a special mix of ground beef and liver and heart. Sounds disgusting to people, but highly nutritious to dogs. When I asked about that one, I was told it's great for dogs, just not for human consumption. Does this mean that it's because the meat was spoiled? I usually get a variety of premium cut proteins for my dog, but now I have to watch things, I guess. more

Best meat and service in the city 2/23/2006

Fast Food Nation freaked me out and I was off meats for awhile. Mind you, I am not a vegetarian, wouldn't even think about it. Just something about knowing the nasty way most meats are produced had me pretty turned off. I used to get my meats at Whole Foods or Bryans but last month I went to the Ferry Building and saw the Prather Ranch store where their sign said pasture raised and dry aged meats. I tried a steak and it was sweet. It blew away both Whole Foods and Bryans. Real steak flavor and I knew it wasn't raised in those nasty feedlots you see driving to LA. Oh yeah, and they have heritage pork as well. Best pork chops I have ever had. If you want real meats from real ranches, check it out. Pros: customer service more
