Pralines By Leon

I've had pralines in New Orleans (where they originated in the states), and they can't even touch the quality of the pralines produced by Pralines by Leon in Nashville. I know people who make it a point to stop in Nashville when traveling north and south for the sole purpose of picking up some pralines here. \r \r This business has been in the same location since 1994 and is busier than ever. And it's more than just pralines, too. Try their creamy caramels that have been dipped in bittersweet dark chocolate and topped with gray sea salt and you'll think you've died and gone to heaven. Everything here is made by hand - no machines, is kosher and gluten-free. \r \r From their wide variety of pralines to their caramels and English toffee, and built on traditional family recipes dating back 125 years, you won't find another confectionary like this one. Don't believe me? Ask President George W. Bush. He had their pralines at his first State-of-the-Union Address Dinner. There wasn't one praline left when it was over. \r \r Obviously, I'm passionate about this place, but when I find something that's ""the best"" in a category in my opinion, I like to share. The classic pecan pralline is much better than any I've had in Charleston OR New Orleans. And if you're a turtle lover you will be in Heaven. Creamy caramel, nuts, and chocolate--what a treat! We stayed longer than we intended visiting with the owner. I know we will be ordering our gourmet gifts from this fabulous candy maker. I am the daughter-in-law of Leon & Myrna and will be part of the 4th generation making these treasured family recipes. We have 8 varieties of Pralines, Dark, Milk & White Chocolate Turtles & hand dipped caramels. Our caramel is soft & creamy and we make everything without preservatives! We don't use peanuts and have peanut-free and Gluten free choices. We've been in business over 18 yrs. and featured on the Food Network, Travel Channel and in Southern Living magazine! This little shop has a lot of character in the location. The pralines are fantastic and we also had some of their caramels, which were great. The problem is that the service was awful and they were the people who OWNED the place! We wanted to ask a few questions and even my 6yo wanted to know a few things about how to make chocolate, etc., but they never even cracked a smile. They never were conversational and left for a small offcie as soon as they took our money. It was sad how much potential this place has, but the service was so lacking. We won't be back... there are too many other great candy places around town that have a smile as sweet as the candy. more
