The best Saginaw had 10/9/2009

Yes, people were upset the gym closed, but that's what happens when there aren't enough people willing to pay enough money to pay the bills. I wish whoever wrote the review would ask the ""good looking"" owner what else could have been done that wasn't done, what ways he would have used to ""sell"" those few people that came into the club. As for the ""a-hole"" owner - me - closing the gym meant walking away from nearly $300k (all of my 401k) invested over the last six years to keep the place open. Ask the ""good looking"" owner how much money the ""a-hole"" took from the business (average of $12k/year, so little I had to take another job to help pay the gym's expenses). Ask what part he played as an owner in figuring out what to do when the money ran out and the landlord got an eviction order. Would he have given advance notice to the members? And how would he then have paid the remaining employees when no one would buy a new membership? Ask him if there was any way to be more fair to everyone than line up another club to honor all memberships, grant privileges to instructors/trainers to fulfill their obligations to clients, secure employment for a key employee, and use all available cash to pay the dedicated and loyal staff that had made the place such a great gym to begin with. Finally, ask him how he got to be an owner; the ""a-hole"" gave him a piece of the business. And I don't see what my sister being ""loaded"" has to do with anything - or was the writer suggesting that she should have subsidized the gym for everyone's use? For that matter, I'd invite the writer to get a hip replacement then talk about what is or is not appropriate in terms of parking. As they say, don't criticize somebody till you've walked a mile in their shoes! Pros: Lots of equipment, clean, friendly, long hours Cons: Plaza parking more

Gym Close 9/2/2009

Bottom line to this story is: There were two owners, originally. One owner was smart, good looking, personable, in-shape the kind of guy you'd want to bring home to Mom. The other owner was the worst kind of human being. Old, crusty, arrogant, cocky but most importantly STUPID with ZERO business skills. The problem was, this guy actually thought he was smart. So while this tandom was together they took Powerhouse from about 300 members to almost 2,000 members and everything was going JUST fine. THEN, the smart, good looking, personable partner decided to buy another gym in a different city. He took that gym over in June, and took his attention AWAY from Powerhouse (while still maintaining his ownership interest) and directed toward his new gym. Less than 3 months later, while the idiot owner tried to run things on his own, the gym failed. Probably the idiot owners biggest mistake was, after not paying his employees for weeks on end, he decided to save money, he's put his unlikeable azz at the front counter to sell memberships...well, guess what? He didn't sell very many. Then after working for just 4 five hour days, two weeks in a row, this a-hole takes a vacation, because he wasn't used to working so hard, LMAO (all he did was sit at the counter sipping on his fancy latte and talking on his blue tooth head set to his sister in France who is LOADED and supports his sorry azz). Probably the funniest thing about this owner, is that he ALWAYS parked in the handicap spot RIGHT in front of the gym, everytime he was at the gym. If he was there for 8 hours, his VW sat in the handicap spot for 8 hours. His reasoning was that he had his hip replaced, but this dude worked out regularly, and walked around just fine, no evidence whatsoever of any problems. Perhaps even funnier (or scarier, depends on how you look at it) is this guy is the PRESIDENT of the Saginaw Township Small Business Association!!! What a joke. I hope they kick him out because he doesn't own anything anymore except A LOT of debt to the members he screwed over, some of which bought memberships the week the gym closed. I hope nobody is ever dumb enough to let Rich Spitzer run anything ever again. He likes to dress up in a suit and tie everyday and walk around like he is important and treat other people like poo. When in reality he's the biggest arrogant azz in Saginaw, and he couldn't run a kool-aid stand. I hope Lynn Grant didn't go into business with this scumm, she'll be sorry if she did, thats all I have to say. more

Best Gym in the Tri cities 12/28/2006

I love love love this gym, the staff and the members are friendly, helpful and outgoing. The classes are fun and there are many different times and classes to choose from. The place is cleaner than any other facility Ive been in in the area. I love that its not some nasty pole building like Potential Energy. Pros: Thumbs up, great location. more
