My cousin took me here to pick up her birthday cake. It turns out they got her order wrong, but the "mistake" looked so good, she got that one too!
Actually, these weren't cakes at all. They are 12" tarts. One was pear with marzipan and the other, an apple custard. Both were delicious.
I also decided to get a few treats for breakfast the next morning. The guava and cheese strudel caught my eye (a sticky, sweet and flaky delight), as did the cheese pastry (sweet, crunchy and cheesy) and the Coquitos (dense coconut ball s, covered in a crunchy candy glaze). I also bought some "sprinkle cookies" (light butter cookies with colored sprinkles) and a Florentine cookie (thin, crispy, nutty and chocolaty).
As I went to pay, I noticed a hot counter. I bought deep fried plantains, stuffed with black beans (sweet banana and salty bean flavors melting together) and a potato croquette (spiced meat, covered in potatoes and deep fried, mmmm!).
Everything was delicious! And very reasonably priced. I'm looking forward to my next visit to LA to try new desserts.
Pros: delicious, exotic, well priced pastry, treats and desserts
Cons: noisy, crowded, can be long wait - but worth it.
