Worst

Best Cuban bakery 4/7/2007

Portos is by far one of the best bakeries, Cuban and otherwise. Their rellenos de papa are to die for! I have been places where the rellenos have no flavor, but this is not the place. Also, their sandwiches are delicious! I have been going here for years. I even ordered my wedding cake here and I received tons of compliments on both the appearance and taste of the cake! I drive from the other side of town just to come out here! The tres leches and all their other pastries have been outstanding! You really can't go wrong here whatever you order! Pros: EVERYTHING! more

Absolutely delicious pastries! 3/21/2007

These are some of the best pastries available, no matter what! The prices are very good, and they have a great variety; sandwiches, breakfast, cakes, pastries, and meat pies, and good coffe, as well. Also good is the guava-mango smoothie. Just avoid going during lunch hours and early mornings on the weekend, it is HECTIC!!! Pros: Muy buena comida, good prices Cons: Busy during rush hour more

Exotic ingredients! 2/3/2007

My cousin took me here to pick up her birthday cake. It turns out they got her order wrong, but the ""mistake"" looked so good, she got that one too! Pros: delicious, exotic, well priced pastry, treats and desserts Cons: noisy, crowded, can be long wait - but worth it. more

Exotic ingredients! 2/3/2007

My cousin took me here to pick up her birthday cake. It turns out they got her order wrong, but the "mistake" looked so good, she got that one too! Actually, these weren't cakes at all. They are 12" tarts. One was pear with marzipan and the other, an apple custard. Both were delicious. I also decided to get a few treats for breakfast the next morning. The guava and cheese strudel caught my eye (a sticky, sweet and flaky delight), as did the cheese pastry (sweet, crunchy and cheesy) and the Coquitos (dense coconut ball s, covered in a crunchy candy glaze). I also bought some "sprinkle cookies" (light butter cookies with colored sprinkles) and a Florentine cookie (thin, crispy, nutty and chocolaty). As I went to pay, I noticed a hot counter. I bought deep fried plantains, stuffed with black beans (sweet banana and salty bean flavors melting together) and a potato croquette (spiced meat, covered in potatoes and deep fried, mmmm!). Everything was delicious! And very reasonably priced. I'm looking forward to my next visit to LA to try new desserts. Pros: delicious, exotic, well priced pastry, treats and desserts Cons: noisy, crowded, can be long wait - but worth it. more

Best cheese rolls 1/29/2007

I love their cheese rolls. It's worth driving there, finding a parking and waiting in line. I recommended that you go 30 minutes before they close. The lines in not long at such time. more

Totally worth the hype! 1/11/2007

So, I couldn't imagine how good this place could be, but from the ridiculously wonderful reviews, I visited the 2nd location in Burbank, and even though it looks from the outside like a giant Panera bread, it's far from it. The Cubano sandwich is amazing, as are the potato croquettes. And anything with guava (guayaba) and guava and cheese (guayaba y queso) is dee-licious! I am SO happy that I went, and can't wait to become a regular. Hooray for Porto's! Pros: Cubano sandwiches, and guava pastries. more

Amazing selection! 11/21/2006

I've been here a number of times for lunch and definitely prefer their pastries to their sandwiches! Not to say that their sandwhiches aren't good; they are. But their pastries are insane! I love their creampuffs, cupcakes, and other items I can't even recall. There's no real parking nearby other than street parking. more
