Porthouse Theater usually runs a three-show season during the summer only. Their affiliate, Kent State University, isn't especially well-known for its theater program; nevertheless they do consistently excellent shows.
The theater's physical location is next to the Blossom Music Center, an Ohio anchor. I've never been to a show when there's also something happening at Blossom, but since "next to" means "within a mile of", I don't think the noise is ever disruptive.
The physical location is nice; there are picnic grounds and a small ticket-taking booth (with attached bathroom). At the bottom of a hill is the theater itself, which is fairly small (seats at most 500) and is outdoor but covered.
Shows at the Porthouse Theater are both gorgeous and well-acted. I've never been disappointed here.
Student tickets are reasonably cheap (less than $15); grown-ups may have to pay as much as $25/show. It's certainly worth it.
