I didn't think there were any surprises left in the Boston bar scene, but Porter's proved me wrong. With the exposed brick and high ceiling, it has a charming and relaxing atmosphere. The food is great pub food--another surprise. I had the good luck to be there on a Tuesday night when the trivia challenge is held. The MC is outstanding, and he plays great music while the teams are mulling their answers. This was not generic trivia. It covered a lot of ground, and I was totally humbled. Even when the place is crowded with pregame customers, it stays civilized, and the wait staff is attentive, friendly, and do a great job without being intrusive.
