Not Recommended for Weddings 10/19/2008

Ponzi Vineyards is beautiful, and my event went smoothly, but they were downright misleading on their costs and amazingly unreasonable where customer service is concerned overall. Ponzi looked fairly priced on paper as I shifted through the many vineyard wedding options I had in Portland, yet there were some unbelievable surprises in store for me long after I signed my contract to hold my reservation and have my wedding there. Firstly, the price of food per person went from $36 a head as listed on their menu, sent to me during my decision-making phase, to $42 per person a few weeks before the wedding. When I asked about this, I was told that the original menu prices were not ""guaranteed."" The food was good but didn't come close to warranting that price. Skipping over many other small issues I had was the other main shock I received upon viewing my final invoice where Ponzi had poured almost exclusively $35/bottle Pinot Noir throughout a 5-hour plus event. They also automatically poured a glass of white wine with the salad course, already sitting on the table, for each guest. My mother saw a bartender open a new bottle ten minutes before were had to be off the property at the end of the night! I was never consulted as to what I wanted poured and had assumed I would be asked at some point; I was certainly too busy in the weeks before the wedding to keep track of every detail. When I glanced at their wine menu at one point, I noticed many wines in the $16-$18 range and kept those in mind as my options. Due to these and several other issues, a tiny wedding with 37 guests cost almost $8,000. I brought up these concerns with Ponzi, insisting that we negotiate this final bill, and was completely brushed off. I was simply told the bill needed to be ""wrapped up immediately."" For a customer spending $8,000 with ANY organization, it was shocking to be treated like that. I would not recommend Ponzi, and I would not go back for a future event. Pros: beautiful, convenient location Cons: outrageous cost, poor customer care more

What a treat! 7/18/2006

Walking amongst some of the oldest vines in Oregon helped my fiance and I appreciate the effort it takes to make world class wines. The estate vineyard was beautiful, the staff was the friendliest I encountered at any winery and the wines spoke for themselves. We will come back and tell all our friends about it for sure. Pros: Setting, wine and staff Cons: Busy more

Good juice! 8/5/2002

A little out of the way, but worth the trip in my opinion. Friendly tasting room staff. The wines are rarely a dissapointment. The reserve Pinot Noirs are worth the trip! The 1999's and 2000's are showing very well. Prices are a little high but overall fair. Pros: good wines, friendly staff Cons: out of the way, somewhat pricey more
