I have been a resident for 6 years (why? We have crazy jobs and have been in a perpetual state of relocation...easier to stay put). My husband and I are 30 something professionals. The first 3 of them, I LOVED it. The management was terrific: things were fixed promptly, the grounds were well-maintained, friendly and professional friendly staff.
I have to say that I love the spaciousness of the apartments and the ones that have been remodeled are pretty nice. Windows are cheap, but the gas heat is really nice.
In the last 6-8 months, it has become a nightmare. The
management's communications to the residents are stern and nasty -- not friendly at all. We see many postings about "do this, don't do this". Blah Blah.
First, potholes were horrible and were not fixed until the beginning of July. I'm talking about 4 inch deep holes in the middle of the parking lot driveways.
I have complained multiple times about a leaking roof. I have mold on the ceiling in my garage. The paint on the ceiling has fallen to the floor of my garage because of the leaks. The leaks just aren't in the garage (hey, you can't live in the garage!), they are on the top floor. Sure, they're happy to paint over the brown spots for you!
This spring/summer, there was no fertilizing/mulching of the grounds other than the grouds by the office/road. Not a big deal? The ground was muddy/weedy and looked gross. I live here people! Finally, several neighbors fertilized their own ground areas because they were sick of looking at it.
In January, I had my first real problem. We always pay our rent early (schedules). Well, I dropped it in the rent box. I returned from Christmas to a nasty note on my door about how I didn't pay the rent?!?! I have the carbon copy of my check, we paid it on December 23 (going out of town), and every other bill around it was cashed. I have no receipt (have NEVER had a problem before with dropping rent in the box). Well, I offered to pay again, but I would not be paying the "extra fee". Not my fault that they lost my rent! We had a 15 day saga about that, more nasty notes, and finally, someone's boss approved me not having to pay the fee. I could have paid the fee many times over (I was half-inclined to pay to resolve the situation), but it was the principle of the matter.
Most recently, I began a quest 7 days ago to get something fixed. The office / maintenance staff does not communicate status or information to the people. I feel like I don't have full use of my apartment, but it's "not their policy" to do anything other fix it eventually.
There are large areas for parking, and guests must park in designated areas or they will be towed (apparently, some folks are parking in front of people's garages??). This is a recent development.
I'm sick of it. I don't know what the deal is with the management folks -- all I know is that they are un-responsive, try to pass the buck, and a lot of the grounds look terrible, and roof maintenance is long-over due (one of the maintenance men told my husband that they're just not fixing stuff).
Sure, the rent is reasonable for the area...maybe if you're not good to stay very long.
