A breath of fresh air 6/15/2006

Last weekend, I went camping with some friends at Point Reyes. Although I absolutely love the city, sometimes I yearn for trees and sky and ocean, and this was the perfect antidote to that. We parked and then hiked in to our campsite (about a 2 mile hike). The campsite was surrounded by hills and was a two minute walk from the beach. I had a great time. If you're yearning for some outdoorsy time, this is it. more

Point Reyes 5/21/2006

This is my favorite day trip out of the city. I’ve been lucky enough to see stands of Elk running across the sprawling views here. It’s very Never Cry Wolf. Epic, grand, breathtaking, all that. The hike out to the very tip, the point of Point Reyes, is just long enough to feel like you did some work, but it won't kill you. When you’re out here on the Point, staring out over the Pacific, perhaps watching the whales breech, you know you’re at the very place where the San Andreas fault runs out from the land into the Ocean and if it were to shake at that moment, you’d no doubt tumble into the sea. What a way to go! more

An Idyllic Getaway 9/24/2005

With a lighthouse, plenty of nature trails, breathtaking scenery of the coast, and even the occasional heard of cows, this national treasure is not to be missed. A great spot for whale watching, you'll also get a good view of the elephant seals reclining on the rocks, and get to hear their distinctive calls that sound suspiciously like outboard motors. Not to be missed. more

Lovely and scenic 8/21/2005

Point Reyes is a beautiful locale which is only a couple hours drive from the city. There a plenty of trails and paths available, so runners and cyclists will be pleased. Also the beach is beautiful and the vistas are absolutely stunning. You may not want to wade into the water though, although the beaches have a rough beauty which is great to look at, the water is freezing cold. more
