This is my favorite day trip out of the city. I’ve been lucky enough to see stands of Elk running across the sprawling views here. It’s very Never Cry Wolf. Epic, grand, breathtaking, all that. The hike out to the very tip, the point of Point Reyes, is just long enough to feel like you did some work, but it won't kill you. When you’re out here on the Point, staring out over the Pacific, perhaps watching the whales breech, you know you’re at the very place where the San Andreas fault runs out from the land into the Ocean and if it were to shake at that moment, you’d no doubt tumble into the sea. What a way to go!
