My family and I chose to drive from Greensboro to Raleigh to check out Playspace one day. People had raved about Playspace to us for a few years. What a disappointing endeavor. Playspace can't begin to compare to Greensboro Children's Museum. We should've never left home.
Yes, there is lots to do at Playspace -- child-size models of an ambulance and a fire truck; grocery store area; dress-up area; music room; block area. Yes, the staff is friendly and helpful. That all said, this museum is small and tends to always feel crowded. Even when there are not alot of children there, it feels crowded. There is tons to do -- just not lots of room to move whether there are tons of kids or not. The activities/areas are not well spaced apart, thus you feel like the grocery store is on top of the ambulance/paramedic area. I was very disappointed with the layout of this children's museum. I was also disappointed in the child-size models of the ambulance and fire truck. Yes, they look like the real thing shrunk to a child's size; but I find it more impressive when a children's museum has an actual ambulance/fire truck for the children to crawl through and pretend to drive. I guess if this was the only children's type museum I had ever experienced, I would rave and rave about it. Unfortunately for Playspace, I have visited other children's museums to know that Playspace is NOT the bomb that the locals believe it to be.
Admission cost is par for this type establishment. Parking is good. Hours are as expected.
