Very nice store 8/20/2005

Located on ninth street, near Duke East Campus (and a string of very neat other little stores) the Playhouse Toy Store is a very nice toy store. The staff is friendly and helpful, and as a small store, it has an atmosphere that's lacking at the huge megastores. The stocking is unique too, you'll find an area of toys here that you just can't get at Target or walmart etc. Highly recommended for kids. more

small but packed toy store 8/18/2005

I went to this store while I was at Duke to participate in a Christmas gift exchange with some local elementary school kids. I thought it was admirable that the Playhouse was participating by giving discounts for the program. There are a lot of kids books there, as well as all manner of toys, but not a lot of the more commercial type stuff, like Barbie or Hot Wheels. It's a fun place for kids since there are displays to play with, and the clerks were very helpful when I needed advice on what a five year old boy might like. more
