I do not recommend this place if you would like to have a dog. The way I was treated left me feeling bad and unworthy to adopt any of their dogs. I thought that I could let this go but unfortunately, the rude explanations left me angry enough to write this comment one month after I went in to the shelter for a possible adoption. \r I told the skinny lady (I assume a lower manager) what I was looking for (a dog I would train specifically for service needs) and the type of dog I preferred. The conversation started out fine but when I told her that I had a lot of experience with dogs and that I responsibly bred and trained them, this person acted offended and was very rude to me. My husband was also taken aback by her insulting comments that all breeders don't deserve to have a dog and are essentially rotten people. \r I could not defend myself from this attack and was summarily dismissed when another couple came in and they were treated to papers to fill out, which I never received when I went in to inquire about a dog. It's too bad for them, because the lucky dog I would have happily adopted would have received a forever home and been my traveling companion. The skinny lady's rudeness was unacceptable and NOT tolerated. more

My wife and I had the best possible experience with the folks at Pixie Project when we contacted them about finding a new home for our boy, Booker. It broke our heart to give Booker up, but we had to do it, and our goal was to make absolutely sure he went to a loving home where he would be happy and well cared for. \r \r We brought Booker in, explained our situation, and after seeing the care and professionalism the Pixie Project takes with the adoption process, we knew this was the right place. We went back to check up on Booker a couple of times and he was a happy little camper at Pixie Project, no problems whatsoever, while he awaited his new home.\r \r We were happy to learn that Booker will be adopted by someone who truly fits his needs and will undoubtedly come to love him just as much as we do. Our hearts will forever be touched by our time with Booker. We are comforted by knowing he will continue to have a loving home with his adoptive parent.\r \r The one negative review I see on Citysearch is actually case in point as to why we chose Pixie Project. You don't just cruise in, lay down cash, and adopt an animal at Pixie Project. Instead you are vetted to ensure the proper match between owner and pet. There are lots of considerations for each pet and it's not realistic to think that the online profile can include them all. We appreciate the fact that Pixie Project takes the time to fully assess potential owners and ask all the questions. Owners who find questions surprising or intrusive, don't have much regard for the needs of the pet. It's not the local pet shop, it's a placement agency. \r \r Finding great homes for needy animals is what Pixie Project does. And they do it so very well. Whether you're looking for that perfect friend or re-homing a treasured pet, Pixie Project is a great place to start. more

Easy, professional adoption 3/31/2009

My boyfriend and I recently adopted a cat from the Pixie Project. The shelter is located on MLK, and they have a beautiful walk-in cattery where you can hang out and get to know the cats without looking through cage bars or fighting through hordes of people. Once we'd chosen a cat, they approved us quickly and efficiently. The price is a little higher than other shelters, but the cats are fixed, chipped and tested (and they give you a 10% discount on any supplies you purchase that day). Everyone was incredibly nice and professional, not to mention interested in the welfare of their animals. I can't recommend this place enough! Pros: Central location, good parking, good shelter hours Cons: A little bit expensive, but not bad more

Great experience! 1/19/2009

We adopted a dog from the Pixie Project and couldn't have been happier. The staff was kind, knowledgeable, and almost as excited as we were about getting our dog. They have an intense commitment to the animals, and for and owners, and making sure the pet is going to the right place and will be taken care of for life. Pros: Great service, highly knowledgeable, continuing dedication. more

Best Adoption Experience Ever. Ever. 1/19/2009

In meeting with the ladies at the Pixie Project to adopt our dog Newman, we found the most loving and supportive animal rescue staff I have ever encountered. Amy (co-founder) made it clear that if Newman were to be lost or stolen, we should call her and she would personally help us look for him. If we couldn't care for him at any point in his life, we were told to bring him back in, no judgment passed. Furthermore, she gave us her personal cell phone number, just in case something went wrong and we needed her to come to our house to check things out. I was dumbfounded by her love and dedication to each and every single one of the hundreds of animals that pass through her rescue project. Pros: Friendly and supportive staff, location, dedication to clients and pets Cons: No cons more

Worst Adopt Agency ever, avoid 10/22/2008

We came across a dog that we wanted to adopt off of PetFinder and requested more information via email. They told us to fill out the application and turn it in, that we couldn't meet the pet first. After filling out a lengthy application and answering what felt like a million questions we sent in the application. It asked questions about where the dog will be during the day and how much it will be left alone, etc. Cons: Everything!! more
