Phil's Fish Market & Eatery is delicious! 9/21/2009

We love Phil's. They have the most delicious clam chowder served in a sourdough bread bowl. Sometimes the lines can be long, but it's worth the wait for seafood as fresh as this!!! more

The in-laws introduced me to this place - I knew I married in to that family for a reason!!!\r \r Phil's is incredible - there wasn't one thing ordered didn't make my mouth water. Everything is very fresh and cooked to perfection.\r \r Atmosphere is extremely relaxed. Indoor and outdoor dining. A Local Legend 2/13/2008

Phil's Fish Market is a very unpretentious, somewhat funky cafeteria style fish house out in the dunes of Moss Landing, between Monterey and Watsonville off highway 1. It was actually a fish market at one point, selling whatever the boats brought in that day. Owner Phil was introduced to a cioppino sauce that he started using with the fish which became a huge hit with the locals. Over the years, the place became more restaurant than fish market, with a large menu of pasta and fish dishes, but it still maintains a very authentic old style coastal feel. Phils has gained a national reputation, almost solely by word of mouth, and has recently been featured on the Food Network. Dont expect candles and roses on your table, just great fish and lots of it. All dishes also include a large salad and all the bread you can eat. more

I thought this was a pretty cool place and it is certainly popular. However, my wife got very sick from eating the blackened scallop entree. The place is partially outdoors so the flies were swarming. The men's bathroom was disgusting. Even though I enjoyed my dungeness crab and liked the concept, I would have to advise against dining here. The popularity of this place may have overtaken it's ability to address health and cleanliness issues. Pros: the seafood eatery concept Cons: cleanliness more

yummy 9/10/2005

seating is sometimes difficult but the food is great. it's also a fish market so the seafood is usually very fresh. the sauce for their mussels and clams are grrrreat! the weekends are usually pretty busy, especially during dinner time. so if you want to get good seating you should arrive early. verrry busy! and it's kind of out of no where as well. more
