Editorial review from Citysearch 11/10/2012

Expensive mediocre food. I had been there before for Happy hour and liked the cocktails and steamed dumplings. Thought I would go back when I saw a gilt city voucher for two for $100. The service was superb, but the food was disappointing. All the choices had sweet and sour sauce like at a chinese buffet. I was expecting better choices ands vegtables with the dishes. Not just rice! The seaweed appetizer should have been a freebie, not 14 or $18. Then there was an error in the bill- of course in their favor. And BTW Since when is tax 9% in Dade County? more

Ehhhh! Grossly over rated food. The Chicken and broccoli was tasteless, the sour halibut was so, so. And well the fried rice was nothing exceptional. Prices were ridiculous for the quality of food. I would not recommend this restaurant nor would I return. more

STAY AWAY IF YOU HAVE ANY ALLERGIES!!!!! 11/11/2010

My husband and I had dinner here with a large group. We had 4 celiacs and when our waiter wanted the table to do the tasting menu, I explained in detail that four of us could not have any flour, wheat, soy sauce (contains wheat) or anything else that contain those ingredient and then I asked if that would be a problem. He said that there would have to be some substitutions made but we would be in good hands. What we got was WHEAT POISONING and had to pay 85, plus 20% tip each for the pleasure of it!!!!!!!! The tasting menu has around 12 items on it and we could only eat four. The waiter would tell us a dish was safe only to find out is wasn't after we had eaten some. We had to complain multiple times to get any sort or substitutions other than plain steamed vegetables, even then they were baffled on what to serve us. They seemed uneducated in how to deal with any sort of food allergy, but were hell bent on not letting us out of the 85 dollars a piece for the menu. I would have been happy to just order from the a la carte menu, but the waiter intentionally lead us to believe they could accommodate us to lock us into this menu and then just thought we would be happy with one quarter of the menu. We would have paid for our drinks and walked, but we were with a group and that wasn't an option. Beyond all of that the food was mediocre at best. If the only thing they can think of to serve a wheat free crowd is plain steamed vegetables (not even tossed with garlic and some oil) then that is just plain SAD and PATHETIC. Stay away is my advice, there are plenty of other restaurants in Miami. more

Excellent Cuisine, Pushy Server 11/27/2009

As a freelance writer for several publications in the area, I went to Philippe to see what at the rave was about. Final result: The presentation of my meal was absolutely superb. Kudos to the chef that knew how to use a hint of every fine ingredient to make my taste buds tingle. Shame on you to the server that kept coming to my table every 3.5 minutes to ask if I wanted anything else ... give the client some breathing space and let them chew their meal at least 5 times before coming back ... and to top it off, giving me the bill before I even ordered the dessert. As you can imagine, I skipped the dessert. Pros: Great design concept and food presentation Cons: Pricey, Servers too pushy more

keeping miami posh 11/24/2009

If you're looking for an upscale, trendy, posh place to eat in miami Philippe is your place. The servers are great with food pairings and there's always an amazing choice of cocktails. My server offered the pearfection and it was insane! a combo of citrus tyku and pear vodka that paired perfectly with my meal! Pros: upscale and great food pairings Cons: pricey more

Amazing, Must Try!! 10/15/2009

I kept hearing from friends to visit Philippe, located at the Gansevoort Hotel so finally I did and I found my new fav restaurant! First of all the place is gorgeous and very sexy with its red, white and black decor. The service was also a PRO, the waiter was very helpful and attentive and gave us some wonderful recommendations. The food was sooo yummy. Loved their chicken satay, filet mignon and their sweet & sour chicken. Also they have great cocktails, we had a few at the bar before we decided to sit for dinner. The location is great too, its just a few door down from Louis nightclub and Plung Lounge. Cant wait to go back. Pros: food, ambiance, service, location more

A total RIP-OFF 2/23/2009

This is the first review I have posted, but felt compelled to do so after my experience this weekend. I go to a lot of restaurants and I FELT SO VIOLATED WITH THIS EXPERIENCE. THIS RESTAURANT NEEDS TO CLOSE!!!. I went with 3 other people and had the tasting menu, expecting that they would show off their talents. The bill with no wine but a few cocktails was $600, and the food was just average, just a bit above a chinese buffet. There was absolutely NO CREATIVITY in any of the tasting menu items: fried rice, steamed dumplings, peking duck, stir fried vegetables. I could not believe it. Why they were packed is beyond my comprehension. To top it off, the waiter has the nerve to argue with me about the $60 tip I left for him. DO NOT GO!! more

soon to be a landmark restaurant 1/3/2009

it is a great, lively , and nicely designed restaurant. The service was excellent and the food was awesome. They offer exotic drinks that we'd not had in a long time. Worth every dime that we spent. Pros: the drinks and food are fantastic Cons: the noise level is high more

Best dish offered (peking duck) takes at least an hour to be served. Service was not friendly and prices on the high end. Food doesnt match the px. Not to be repeated. more

Editorial review from Urbanspoon 11/17/2008

Finally!! Somewhere in South Florida has put soup dumplings on their menu. If you haven't had them already, be prepared for the singularly best item served in a Chinese restaurant. Thank god there won't be any more excrutiating waits for a trip to Manhattan in order to wolf down these delectable dumplings by the half-dozen (Joe's Shanghai, mid-town or on Pell St. if you're wondering).\r \r And if that wasn't enough on it's own, you've got to try the fried "seaweed", chicken satay, and the Peking Duck. Simply put, "out of this world"\r \r Not so out of this world was the lobster spring roll. Quite ordinary actually. At $29 for 5 pieces, I'd give it a pass.\r \r The restaurant is definitely pricey, even for SoBe, but these particular items are so good, i'll be going back again and again. Decor is impressive and service was first class. Drink prices are normal for SoBe, and the bar area was perfectly comfortable to wait until the rest of our party arrived. Valet cost at the adjoining Gansevoort South is a ripoff but what are you going to do? more

A taste of NYC in MIA 11/12/2008

I was so happy to hear Philippe restaurant is now in Miami! My friends and I stayed at the Gansvoort South Hotel, and were excited to visit one of our favorite NYC restaurants while there. The food and specialty cocktails were served to the high standards the of NY location, and the service was exceptional as well. Of course, I enjoyed some of my all time favorites... the satays and the extensive wine list! Even though we were only visiting Miami for 4 days... we couldn't help but go twice during our stay. Pros: food, sights, wines Cons: music was a bit loud at times more
