Bobbyd2033 mentions $5 to check out the tower. Angrypoet mentions that it's free. I know it was free at one time but that was then and this is now. Some genius decided this was another way for the city to make money so now you must buy a timed ticket to visit the observation deck. Nothing is free in this city! more

city hall tour 11/12/2009

The guided tour was $10 for 1.5hr, not free. Good idea, heard about tour, live in Philly. Wanted to learn more/ see more of city hall. The tour started in a classroom type office with the guide talking for about 20 minutes. Mostly about random William Penn history and city history. Saw a few neat rooms, stairways, sculptures, nice views. Tour ends with the tower, you take elevator to the top just under William Penn's feet. You can walk out and look around in all directions. Great view to say the least. I thought the tour was too long, could of been done in 45 minutes. Glad I checked it out. If I go back I will just pay $5 to check out the tower. Go on a fair weather day as the tour is outdoor and indoor. Pros: get to see the inside of city hall and tower Cons: not free, $10 for 1.5hr tour, $5 for tower only more

Philly's Billy 9/20/2002

To think this wonderful edifice was once scheduled for the wrecking ball! It's absolutely beautiful, and now that it is being cleaned, it is even more breath taking. They may build 'em taller, but never as unique. Pros: unique, spectacular, beautiful more

Do you know about the ??? 8/12/2002

You can take an elevator up to the top on the famous statue at city hall, one of the greatest views I have ever experienced, and its free, just ask around some one there will let you know where it is and how to get to the top floor area. Pros: free, great view, did i say free Cons: downtown parking, traffic more

Absolutely beautiful! 7/22/2002

We didn't go into this building, but this was pretty much our first real sight when we came into the city at night. It's absoutely gorgeous! All lit up at night, you can see it from almost any part of the city. It's the most ornate building in Philadelphia, hands-down. And I might go so far as to say the most ornate building I've seen in the Northeast. Pros: Beautiful, Free more
