Went to this place a few weeks ago for a birthday. Everything we had was great! I'd write all about each course, but then I think this review would be too long! So here's just a few highlights:
-the ceviche was simple and outstanding; and as far as ceviche goes, I think when chefs try to make it too complex, then it's too overwhelming and does not taste well.
-The homemade ricotta appetizer is amazing!
-I had read reviews on other sites prior to making a reservation, and the only detractions seemed to be about the service. We thought our server was friendly, attentive yet not overbearing, and knowledgeable. We were there on a Saturday night and did not feel rushed, but rather welcome to sit awhile after dinner and dessert w/ our drinks (I think we were there for just over two hours).
-We were impressed w/ the use of local produce and the rotating menu according to seasonal availability of ingredients.
-Don't be intimidated by the brussel sprouts in the braised short rib dish. I never in my life thought I'd eat -- much less enjoy -- brussel sprouts, but they were a great part of this course.
-The only problem we had is we missed it driving past twice b/c it is a small place and modestly lit on the outside. Walking though, it's much easier to find.
-I can't wait to go back! I am in Fort Hamilton every few weeks for work, and hope to go back to Petit Oven soon.
Pros: ceviche, wine and beer list, service
Cons: a little hard to find at first
