First, I have never supplied a negative online review, but I am so unhappy with the service and the response at PET ER that I feel the need to share this.
We brought him in with an injured leg on a Sunday hoping for correct diagnosis and treatment. We hoped for too much.
After 4 hours and $330, they had xrayed him and said he had a broken toe. We were offered the choice to spend $400 more and put on a splint or spend $1000s and schedule surgery for later that day. We declined both options since we had limited funds available to pay the extra fees and preferred to take him to our normal vet the next day who could work with us on a fixed income.
Thank goodness that we did... our vet showed us the xrays from Pet ER which clearly showed that it was his front LEG not a toe that was broken. The vet charged us $175 to PROPERLY diagnose and treat him. After that we received a call from Pet ER telling us that they just noticed the leg fracture and that they had incorrectly diagnosed his fractured toe.
I called Pet ER to talk about this misdiagnosis and see if we could at the very least be refunded for the examination fee since they clearly had not correctly rendered that service. While the staff were polite, they held the attitude that they they made their best guess at first treatment, and then they pay to have other professionals review all of their diagnoses to ensure they are correct. That outside review catches their mistakes so in their opinion we underwent no harm since they EVENTUALLY got the diagnosis right. My concern was NOT resolved in the least that they have to pay other people to check their work. They should have staff in house that can CORRECTLY read an xray, especially one that even I, a non medical professional could read. I shudder to think what would have happen had we done the surgery they suggested!
They made no offers to even partially refund any of the fees we paid and had no other financial compensations to offer.
