I've been shopping at the Clintonville store for almost two years. Before that, I bounced between the Riverside Dr. location and Grandview depending on whether I was at home or coming from work. I won't ever go anywhere else! The parking is sort of inconvenient but the staff is extremely friendly and personable... they know my dog, they know his allergies, and they always have helpful, individualized recommendations. One of the girls actually does product research for me and switched me to a new food that saves me money! Whenever I have questions, the staff will listen to my needs and offer thoughtful and OBJECTIVE(!!!) suggestions.
Some of the managers in the past have been pushy and rude but the two young girls who have been there seemingly forever are always dependable and have totally earned my trust!!! They're always greeting dogs and owners on a first-name basis and sometimes I've seen them carry HUGE bags of food for people as soon as they walk in the door!!! That kind of personal service has turned me into a raving fan for life. There are constantly new employees but if they don't know something, they'll ask another employee for help instead of shrugging and saying ""I don't know."" (cough!! PetSuppliesPlus!!!)
If you're on the fence about feeding an expensive food, do your dog a favor and just go!!! The staff is very passionate about dog food and they'll work with not only your dog's needs but also your checkbook. Their return policy is unbeatable... they let me return three bags of food until my dog found something that made him stop itching!
When you need a product they don't carry, ask about doing a special order. If it seems like it takes forever, it's the fault of the company that ships the products to them. (This is easier to understand if you've ever been a small retail business manager yourself!!!) Anything I've ever ordered has never taken more than a week so it's usually very fast. Pet People can ever transfer products from other stores so you don't have to drive out there yourself. BIG gas saver!
They also have a self-serve dog wash that is kept clean and sanitary. It's kind of expensive but they give you shampoo and towels and it's WAY EASIER than chasing your dog with a hose in the back yard. Just pay attention to the dog wash hours... they're different from the store hours! It's so nice to go for a muddy romp in the park then get my dog clean and fed all in one trip!
