Pet Central Broadway

When I moved to the Upper West Side 30 years ago there was one high end pet store and six supermarkets. Today there are six high end pet stores and one supermarket. Among those pet stores Pet Central stands out, mainly for their superior merchandising and great staffing. As a frequent customer of Amazon, eBay, and petfooddirect I am extremely value conscious and hate paying Upper West Side prices for anything. But what I dislike most about Pet Central's competition is that none of them mark their prices on the merchandise. I already know that a can of good cat food will cost more than I want to pay; having to ask a store clerk look up the price just irks me. It's as if the others have the attitude: ""if you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it."" It's a pet food store for gosh sakes, not a Michelin four star restaurant! Pet Central has *everything*, crammed into the smallest possible selling floor and yet the store is amazingly well organized. The young people who run the place keep it spotless and are very knowledgeable, considering that every time I go in there, there seem to be fifty new products. Bottom line is that while I wish everything were cheaper, I never feel taken advantage of at Pet Central. In fact I feel very well taken care of. The cost of feeding a pet the best commercial foods keeps going up and up, but Pet Central does its best to keep me happy. Pros: Almost everything is clearly priced Cons: It's still expensive more

I absolutely LOVE my block on the Upper West Side, and when Pet Central opened up right next door to my apartment, I was thrilled---and so were all the other pet owners around!! The store is fabulous and every dog in the neighborhood knows exactly where the store is!! I cant tell you the number of times that I see dogs dragging their owners directly to Pet Central, or just sitting down in front of the store until the owner gives in and takes the dog in the store!! Foni is one of the employees and the entire neighborhhood is attached to her--people and dogs!! She gives all the dogs treats and she knows exactly what each dog prefers!! She is an absolute doll and i stop in and say hello even when my dog isnt with me!! And so do all my neighbors--sometimes you'll find all the dog-lovers congregated in Pet Central!! \r \r As far as the variety of food, treats, etc., it is endless and the prices are very reasonable!! They have everything you could ever want for your pet, and if they dont, they will order it!! If you are a pet owner and live on the Upper West Side, please treat your dog to a visit and you will definitely become a regular!!
