As Good As It Gets 11/14/2008

Well It's very hard to find good Persian places in New York, There are only 4 that I know of, but Persian Tea Room is the best outside of Manhattan. I love their food and prices are decent. When I head to my parents house in Old Westbury from the city, I usually stop ad pick up food for the family (saving my mom from cooking).. I have been there on Saturday nights with their entertainment, and I have had nothing but good experiences. more

Horrible Service, Sketchy Pricing, but Decent Food 5/13/2007

I was really in the mood for some authentic Persian food, in an authentic Persian atmosphere. Boy was I headed to the wrong place!!! The waiter was very slow and unfriendly. I had to flag him down for everything and that was after I would patiently wait for him to take notice and attend to our obviously ?in need of service? table. When it came time to order dinner my girlfriend thought that we should share something, since we weren't that hungry. The waiter said that if we shared a dinner he would still have to charge us for an entire extra dinner. I thought...hmmm that's interesting...never heard that before but ok...I?ll bite the bullet and go along with what he's says in order to not be a pain. The food came and it was ok, so I thought ok not so bad, but I must mention that I am Persian, and I come from a Persian household, so I really know my authentic cuisine. This was not at all up to par. The meat was dry, the rice very plain, and the grilled tomato a little cold. For dessert we ordered the Persian ice cream. It pretty much tasted like a candle, but maybe I just don?t have buds for it. Also while deciding on the dessert I was able to look at the menu again and I saw that it read that for any dinner shared between two people an additional $4 would be added. The waiter told us $15 dollars would be added. He blatantly lied to us to make us spend more. What a cheat!!! After all was said and done the check finally came and it was very odd. Apparently they had charged us an initial $10 for the live music that began to play an hour after we got there and despite the fact that we were all the way in the back, not able to hear it very well, and not informed at the beginning of dinner. Finally, they included 15% gratuity, when it read on the menu that gratuity is included for parties of 6 or more and we were only 2. As a Persian and an experienced waiter, I suggest that you steer clear of this place at all costs. Pros: Appetizers were not bad, Persian Tea was tasty Cons: Service, Details about Pricing, Inauthentic (meant for tourists and people who don't know anything about food), Over priced more

Lunch menu is good for the price 10/18/2005

I would say that this place is worth it for the lunch menu. Where can you get a total lunch for under $10? The Lunch comes with a meal, an appetizer, a salad and a cup of tea. The place is dark and gloomy but the lunch menu is worth the price. Parking is available. As I recall Lunch is from 12 -6. The waiters are polite and helpul. This is probably the best Iranian restaurant in New York City for the money. Pros: Food, Cost, Parking Cons: place is too dark, gloomy, smells more

not to exaggerate 9/9/2003

this is a nice place, have been a regular for 5 yrs. the lamb shank over cherry rice (special request pay extra) is excellent. cornish hens juicy cooked. didn't like yogurt drink. sambosas good, not overfried/hard, nan is great for dipping. entertaining belly dancing. SUM IT: definitely worth a try, lots of regulars, friendly svc, not fair to compare to patoug which is also good. Pros: tasty food, belly dancing! Cons: can be crowded/noisy, bad sound system more
