Perry hospital is one of the still functioning rural hospitals that is trying to stay open and serve the local community for their medical need. They have an excellent out patient surgical unit, a hospice unit, 4 ICU beds and a general med-surg unit with a 24 hour ER. It is convenient and saves a trip to a larger medical center for minor injuries and surgeries. But as with all hospitals there are cut backs in staff and supplies and many new foreign doctors on call. The nurses are dedicated and work there because they care. Otherwise they would be at the larger medical centers with a larger hourly wage! Pediatrics is limited, nursing home patients are nearly a majority, but an emergency appendectomy or gall bladder surgery is done skillfully and quickly with minimal hospital time.
PROS: Neighborhood hospital, minimal waiting in ER, outpatient surgery available.
CONS: Awful food, semi private rooms with no showers. Poor airconditioning!
