In 1946, after numerous requests from Montezuma citizens, Melvin Arendt bid farewell to his brother, Louis, at Gibson Savings Bank and moved his family to Montezuma to start Peoples Savings Bank. Melvin was joined in the bank by his two sons Richard and Jim and son-in-law Bill Bolen. Jim later retired in July of 2001. Both Richard and Bill continue to serve Peoples Bank customers and offer a solid historical perspective.
In 1973, Peoples Savings bank moved to its present location on South Second Street. Since 1946, the bank's slogan has been "The Peoples Bank". Whether it is starting a business, buying a car, or purchasing a new home, our goal is to assist our customers in achieving their dreams. We strive to give our customers a chance when others say it couldn't be done.
Today, the third and fourth generations of the Arendt family have joined People Savings Bank to continue the tradition of serving our customers and bettering our community. Our focus remains on serving the needs of the residents of Montezuma and the surrounding areas.
