The Worst Service I have ever experienced 8/22/2011

I went here on a Sunday evening on my girlfriend's recommendation, and honestly I wish we hadn't it wasn't worth the headache. Our waitress took our drink orders and handed us the menus. My girlfriend who frequents the place already knew what she wanted, but for me, never being there and being a sushi lover I needed some time to thumb through all the rolls. So our waitress brings back our drinks and asks if we're ready to order, um no we're not we both have our faces still buried in the menu. About a minute later she comes back and rudely asks again if we're ready to order. I explain that I need a little while to look over the menu for what rolls I want and she walks of in a huff. About two minutes later she comes back and barks ""you ready to order"". At this point I had become so agitated, and felt so rushed I was ready to leave the money for the drinks and go somewhere else. Ps we were there around 7pm, they didn't close until 1030 so we weren't keeping the staff there. My girlfriend answers and once again says no, our waitress then tells us that we have five more minutes and then we need to order. By this point I didn't care about the food, all I wanted was a new waitress and the manager. Another waitress seeing our agitation began to make rounds at our table to try to smooth things over. The rude waitress would come back in a gruff every once in awhile in between, she asked if I wanted anymore sweet tea, I replied ""no"" and yet she still takes my glass and gets the sweet tea anyways. By the time our check came we were beyond agitated and fed up with our horrible service and asked our waitress where is the manager, she replied he's out of town. The other waitress on duty then walked up to the conversation and corrected our waitress and said he's right over there. Having lied, and been utterly rude to us for no reason all night my girlfriend went and told the manager the whole story. His reply, ""I'm sorry, we've been having problems with her tonight"". Really? Not that either of us were looking to get compensated for the horrible dinner we had, but everyone in that restaurants utter lack of responsibility was appalling. We will NEVER go here again, I rather eat at a generic, chain restaurant then experience their disregard for customer service ever again. The sushi was average, nothing amazing. For what it's worth find your sushi elsewhere it's not worth the price to have your meal ruined by an uptight, downright rude waitress and a nonchalant manager. more

Good for the price 1/24/2010

I ordered from the 2-for-1 sushi roll deal and my husband had the curry chicken. The food was ok for what you could expect from a very affordable establishment. The menu is pretty extensive - making it a jack-of-all-trades type of cuisine. We had take-out, so I can't comment on the table service. It's an average place with good prices. Pros: take-out is quick more

always buy one get one free 7/21/2009

this place has the best sushi in town! it's of great quality and always presented nicely. i cant believe it's always buy one get one free because usually places like that have sushi that's too sticky, falls apart too easy, or the rolls are small. i highly recommend this place to everyone! Pros: good quality, great service, great atmosphere, great variety more

Awesome Asian food 7/20/2009

I love Peony's. It is a great place to eat lunch. Get their card for lunches. Eat 9 specials, and you get one free. I love when restaurants offer this. They have great lunch specials. Their spicey lunches are not very spicey, but you can ask that they kick it up a nunch. If you want sushi, they have a great buy one, get one free special. I like their spicey chicken or General Tsao Chicken, Visit Peony, you will love it. Pros: Great food, 2 for 1 sushi Cons: Got to choose between egg roll and soup more

Worst Sushi in Triangle 3/11/2009

First off, the rice was undercooked--still very hard. The fish in the rolls was barely noticeable, as the rolls themselves were tiny. Everything had mayo. and crunchies on/it it (which is fine in some rolls, but should at least be listed in the descriptions - for example, spicy tuna generally does not have mayo and crunchy). When we explained to the staff that we were unaware that the sushi we ordered had mayo drenched on it, and that had it been listed in the description we would not have ordered it we were told that ""that's how it's always made."" .... awkward pause followed. We ultimately did not eat the sushi and were still charged for everything. the service was terrible, the waitress forgot my drink order, and had a serious attitude. As a waitress myself, I usually have exceptional patience when it comes to service, but this place was just terrible. I will definitely not be returning. It's not worth the cheap prices. There are SO many better places in the triangle to eat sushi, and I plan on supporting their businesses. Pros: Cheap Cons: undercooked rice, stingy with fish, bad sushi, bad service more

Good dining at the least 3/4/2009

I found this while trying out the restaurants in Patterson Place and was impressed. more

Best Asian in the Chapel Hill/Durham Area! 12/25/2008

I cannot begin to explain how much I love this place! 2 for 1 sushi rolls that actually taste good and are cheaper even than what the grocery store offers- made fresh- how is this possible? Plenty of vegetarian options- and I hear the meat dishes are good, too. This is where I stop weekly after night classes and even near closing time the staff is friendly and hospitable. Pros: Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious food Cons: The fish tank is a little scummy sometimes- but you don't eat those fish. I think. more

lots of veggies! 12/9/2008

One of my peeves regarding many Asian restaurants is that many of the entrees include tons of carbs and few vegetables, but I was pleasantly surprised by Peony. My Hibachi entree came with tons of vegetables and meat. The presentation is very nice and the atmosphere in the restaurant is very calming. The waitstaff was friendly. The menu had tons of variety. As a previous reviewer commented, it may be trying to do ""too much,"" but from what I tasted, they're doing just fine. I would definitely want to go back to try some of the many other selections that sounded good. Tons of food... had enough to bring home leftovers! Pros: great location, great food, great ambience Cons: none come to mind more

hit-or-miss - mostly miss 10/23/2008

This is a good deal for lunch and used to be our very favorite. However, it is not the freshest. Some days you may love it and some days you may hate it. We have seen the quality and freshness decrease drastically in the last few months. :( Pros: buy 1 get 1 free Cons: sushi quailty has gone down more

Cheap, fast, and tastey 9/6/2008

This place is my new stand by for Chinese take out. It's kind of mystifying how it manages to be inexpensive, quick, and also taste good. I really like the garlic chicken but the option they give for when you want to make a low calorie entree is wonderful. You pick 4 vegetables and can add shrimp or chicken, they steam it, you have an option of white or brown rice, and then they give you an option of one of 4 sauces on the side. I have tried the sushi, and that's the only thing from me giving this place 5 stars. It's def not bad, and it's buy one get one free so it's a deal, but if you're a sushi snob like me you won't be too impressed. If all you eat are rolls then I doubt you'll really be able to tell much difference from an actual sushi bar, with the exception of the lack of variety and specials. more

Tasty, fresh Asian! 6/6/2008

We discovered this restaurant tucked away in a strip mall and have returned time and time again. The walnut shrimp is superb. All the vegetables we have ordered have come out crispy fresh. Prices are reasonable. Decor is fine but not fancy. Great sushi specials. We hope this little joint sticks around! Pros: Fresh, tasty food. Reasonable prices. Cons: Has all types of Asian food on menu. Trying to do too many cuisine types? more

Fresh and delicious, generous servings 12/1/2007

Usually go to NeoChina and considered it the best in the area, but for great wonton soup and Hibachi shrimp this place can't be beat. Food is fresh, healthy (no msg or heavy salt) and delicious. Great undiscovered resource for Asian food in the area. Has a Sushi bar. more

Fresh, hot and tasty! Good takeout that's closeby! 11/18/2007

Tried Peony on a slow Sunday night for takeout and was very impressed! The staff were very friendly, food was prepared fresh and quickly and prices for a combo meal (entree plus soup/eggroll and rice) are decent (around $9 each). The General Tso's was, as advertised, white meat that was crispy and in a sweet/spicy sauce. Szechuan Chicken was also tasty, though more veggies than chicken. Portions are notably large, and everything was very hot and fresh. Great takeout, I'd definitely recommend it! more
