Penny Lane is one of those places you come in with your cup of coffee in one hand and the intent to find something rare taunting your mind. I'm a big fan of old jazz greats like Charlie Parker and Sarah Vaughn, so Penny Lane was a GREAT place to look for not only old recordings and boxed sets, but they also had post cards made from photos of old sessions and performances. This place is a mix of nostalgia and sophistication and I don't mind spending my hard-earned money on the music here. This place dont offer much. Other than whatever the average day Joe Bloke decides to pawn off other than throwing onto the trash heap. If your looking for a specific title.. You most likely wont find what you need. If you just come to glance. You might find a pleasant surprise. Pennylane is real small. I think they get their name from only paying 1 penny for the 1 square millimeter of business space they occupy. Not too much elbow room. If the place was bigger, I'd do a bigger write up. When it comes to music and film, CD's and DVD's Penny Lane Records and Tapes has one of the best selections and variety of both the new and the old anywhere in the city of Pasadena. The staff is usually pretty friendly and knowlegeable of the music and film you may be searching for. You can usually find the latest and the recent oldies but goodies but what's good about this place is that they may have some oldies but goodies and if they don't have it they can usually order it for you. Parking can be a bit of a problem. It has a very pleasant atmosphere. This is a place that you should check out when you get the chance and take your time for there is so much in this house of music and films. Pennylane is good for a used music selection, however u can go anywhere else for new releases. a little over priced for used music. this particular store is great helping customers with hard to figure out music. by far the best pennylane there is. more

Penny Lane carries a very standard line of new and used CDs and tapes. Unless I missed something, their vinyl section is slim or absent. If you're looking for recently released popular records at a used price, it's great. If you're hunting rarities or older material you may have some difficulty at Penny Lane. Much like it's neighbor, Moby Disc, Penny Lane is worth a stop but don't go out of your way. more
