In mid-June 2009, I visited Dr. Penland with vague, chronic symptoms of depression and fatigue. I had been diagnosed with celiac disease the year before, and my gastro, Cary Patt, had told me that Dr. Penland had run alot of tests for him to confirm my diagnosis. Dr, Penland spent a lot of time with me, discussing both medical and other problems. He encouraged me to do healthy things to help make me feel better, but was NOT preachy. He also ordered thorough blood and urine tests. As I left, I saw his next next patients, waiting for him. They seemed unconcerned about the time Dr. Penland had spent with me. That's when I knew he was special; he takes his time. It turns out I had a minor UT I. It felt good, however, to have been treated with such care. Also, one of his nurses, a young woman, was very kind and was happy to not shout aloud what my weight was! It was silly of me to request that, but she agreed with me that if I don't want to hear it, I don't have to. May God richly bless Dr. Penland and his staff.
