Pelican's Roost Fish & Chips

I have focused on the fish & chips because they're so good! I was shocked at how much fish you get for the money. FRESH and in an AWESOME batter. Light - not greasy. The clam chowder is pretty good also. If this place were in a college town there would be a line out the door several nights a week .. waiting for tables! Pros: Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. GREAT Fish & Chips Cons: When more people find out about it it will get BUSY! more

I would like to say that I use to work for this restaurant. I had a good time working there and the food was great as well. I will admit the service isn't always as perfect but they try. As for the comment stating that they recycle the food it's not true at all. First of all the cook would never come out and scowl the customer and in front of other customers. And what cook would ever do that in the first place unless there out of there mind. This person also stated the cook pick there crab cakes right in front of them. The cook would be fired if that ever happen. If the customer isn't happy we would gladly get them something else. This person has the exact same comments on another website in yahoo locals. It's obvious this person was a disgruntle ex-employee. We did have a lady that use to work there and she wasn't a great person to work with. I was glad that she quite. She quite late last year or so not to sure exactly when but it was fairly recent. As you can see from the other comments the reviews are good. more

Although at times it can get pretty busy and the service isn't always 100%, I really enjoy the food there. It's great not as greasy as some other fish place's I've been to around greater sacramento area. Over all I do have good experiences there. more

First we were greeted with a grumpy over worked waitress, who copped an attitude because I told her were ready to order. She then brings my food almost ten minutes before evryone else at my table and got my order wrong. I then went to pick up my crab cakes sandwhich and the huge bun was hard as a brick. I have a thing about stale food, especially if the place is also serving me seafood that may not be fresh. At this point I knew I wasn't going to eat anything out of the kitchen. Then the cook comes out and scowls because I sent back something I would have thrown out of my fridge last week. I then watched him pick the crab cakes off and throw the rest away! I have a cold and I spent about ten minutes with them at my table. Wonder which unlucky customer got my recycled crab cakes. Sick! On top of all this management understaffs the servers so service is bad and takes forever. This has been true since it opened. The last time I ate there the batter on my fish was uncooked inside and the fish was stringy and not very warm. That was a year and half ago. Formerly the ""Koffee Kup"" restaurant, the new owners gave this place a ""makeover"" and is now the premier Fish & Chips place in town.......I tried the ""Calamari"" but its nothing to write home about.
