I went to The Pawn Broker on West Boylston St to sell some items, because they advertise on TV so much, that I figured it was worth trying them out. My wife and I had an accident with our house, and had to come up with $4,000 in a short period of time. It was then that we decided to sell and pawn some of our items. I had some new and in the box drills that would cost about $300, but they offered me $25. I took their deal, because I didn?t know any better. My wife got up a pile of old gold jewelry that she wanted to sell. And then she decided to pawn her engagement ring. The ring is appraised for $10,000. I brought the jewelry in, and explained to him that we had an accident, and he asked how much we needed. I said ""even though I know we aren?t going to get it, we need to come up with $4,000"". He snickered, and looked up over his glasses at me and said ""Well you came to the wrong place"". He takes a long look at the ring with his jewelers loop, and then took it out back into another room where he started talking to someone else. After about 5 minutes of very quiet whispering, he comes back to the counter and says ""I can lend you $200"". My jaw dropped. I couldn?t believe it. I knew that I wouldn?t get much, but $200 was just plain insulting. I took the ring back, and told him thank you, but no thank you, and walked out. I was so disappointed, and thought that this was probably the norm at all pawn shops. I figured that there was no way that pawning our things was going to work out. I figured I would take a ride out of the city and go to a place in one of the smaller towns. I did a search and decided upon a pawn shop in Hudson. I walked in, and showed the guy there my ring. After a few questions, he told me that he could offer me $1000 loan, to which i immediately took. I have since brought many items there, and always go a good deal. The main point to my story is, shop around. You don?t have to sell them your item if you are not comfortable with the price. Chances are there is probably someone else out there that will give you money closer to what you think the value is. I will never bring anything to ?The Pawn Broker"".
