OK; kind of sucks 6/1/2011

This store is OK, but they hate their customers. It shows in everything they do: 1. The handbaskets are kept upside down. Very hard to pick up. When asked about this, they said that the customers were throwing receipts in them when they were right-side-up. So instead of not handing you so many garbage coupons when you check out, or putting a trash can by the exit, they keep the hand baskets upside down. 2. The signs on the aisles are mis-mounted. There are two overhead signs on each aisle. One near the front of the store, and one near the back. The signs have different things on each side - for example, on the front of the sign, "bread," and on the back, "cookies." The way they're supposed to be is when you're at the front of the store you see the "bread" side of one sign, and the "cookie" sign of the other. Not how they're mounted here. If you're at the front of the store, both signs say "bread." If you're at the back of the store looking forward, both signs say "cookies." Not real helpful. When asked about it, they said there's nothing that could be done. 3. About 5% of the produce is missing price signs or mismarked. When I asked the manager about it, he said that they can't be perfect. I've never seen a store with this much mis- or non- marked produce. 4. They run crappy in-store promotions. Last summer a worker came up to me and asked, in a kind of worried/excited tone of voice, "oh my gosh, did you hear what happened earlier today?" I thought there might have been an accident, or something, and asked "no, what?" He responded: "They put canteloupes on sale 2 for a dollar" or whatever. Kind of funny, but kind of a jerk too. 5. They want to be all hoity-toity and so they put their "artisan bread" (which in fact is precooked and just reheated there) behind a counter, so you have to ask for it. Except it's not staffed after 6 or 7 or so, so if you want bread for a late dinner, you're out of luck or you have to wait 15 minutes or so for someone to show up or you have to walk behind the counter to get it. So they are very focused on appearing high-end (bread) and the prices are pretty high, but they dislike their customers and don't believe in actual customer service. more

Terrific store 5/5/2010

I'm not sure why another reviewer said this market was "tolerable." It's a wonderful place to shop. Great lighting, clean store, supply of everything I need. On the rare occasion that a price scanned incorrectly, the manager always refunded my money promptly, no hassles. It would be nice if I could get through grocery shopping without two or three requests to donate to Easter Seals, etc. I prefer to give charitable contributions via other avenues, and feel bad saying "no thank you" every time I buy a gallon of milk, but that's a company-wide practice and not the fault of each location. Pros: Sparkling clean, super helpful staff and management Cons: I don't love the constant requests for charitable donations. more
