Best Parrot Store I've Ever Been In 4/7/2010

One of the things I discovered when I started shopping here is that the staff love the animals- The owners have many birds themselves and not just breeders. They have a caring disposition and are willing to go at length to help you choose a bird that is right for you. They offer a boarder service and there's many of their clientele willing to drive over 60 miles or better to bring their birds to them for this service due to the care they get while boarded-and the boarding cost is very, very reasonable. They also do nail and wing trimming (no beaks!) and have a HUGE selection of cages and toys- the prices are Not unreasonable at all, considering the quality of the products sold. They have many different species in at different times, ranging all the way from english budgies to Green wing macaws. If you are ever in Vancouver, or even close to the area and are a bird lover, Stop by here and see for yourself how great the store is. in the complex where Parrot Perch is located there is an Izzy's pizza, and I think the Washington Lotto office is still in their strip mall as well. Look for the Izzy's sign!! You'll see the Parrot Perch sort of in the middle of the Strip mall there. Pros: Clean, Well adapted birds, knowledgeable staff,Great Website Cons: Only one location, more

Appalled 11/7/2009

I went to this store because I have two greys and needed to get supplies for them. I'd heard the store had decent prices and a large selection. The selection part is true. Some of the toys were decently priced; the majority of food/supplies/cages were way overpriced. The worst part, however, was the birds. There were several large macaws on display and four baby greys. The baby greys were NOT friendly and even lunged to bite. Then one of the store employees - a man with a pony tail - went over to change one of the toys out on a macaw stand and the bird lunged at him. He began a verbal argument with the bird, yelling at it in a nasty voice to stop biting. We then observed him take his pair of pliers (which he was using to try to change out the toy) and jab them at the bird's beak. When the macaw jerked away, the man yanked on the bird's tail until it almost fell backward off his perch! The man was laughing at the bird's distress! Then he began to spin the pvc treat holder so fast that it was hitting the macaw's beak when it went around, and he was laughing again even though the macaw was obviously visibly upset. Anyone who understands parrots should NEVER have treated a bird like this. I was so sickened by this display that I walked out immediately without buying anything. I cannot in good conscience support people who are intentionally cruel to animals, who think it is FUNNY to treat an animal with disrespect - especially the very people who are supposed to CARE about them! DO NOT give this store your money - shop online, at Bizee Bird, the Bird Hut - even Petsmart/Petco before here! Pros: Large selection of toys and cages, lots of birds, Cons: Animal cruelty!!!!! NOT inexpensive. more

GREAT selection of products, but irresponsible, greedy breeding 6/6/2008

I lived in Vancouver for 20 years. I also have 3 parrots. It was inevitable that I would peruse the parrot perch. This store is large, clean, and bursting full of bazillions of great toys and food. It is fun to visit because there are always lots of large birds on display. If you are hankering to give a cockatoo a headscratch, this is for sure the place to do it!! The down side is all the large birds. There are too many problem large birds in search of homes. Large birds are hard to take care of correctly. They can be loud, smart, nippy, hilarious and wonderful. They can also live forever. The 'second chance' birds are also very expensive. There is a little meyers parrot that has been at the store for at least six months. He's $500. And on his 3rd or 4th home. At some point, when working with sentient creatures, I think compassion for the animal should come before profits. The old man with a pony tail is also sort of rude. He likes a few kinds of birds, but will bad mouth others. The red haired lady can be nice, but isn't usually very friendly. There is a lady with long brown hair who is consistently kind and friendly. This isn't the kind of parrot shop that will help you solve your bird's problems. It is more the kind of shop that will sell you a troubled bird. It is fun to visit, but I can't with good conscience give them my money. Pros: Gazillions of toys, lots of foods, fun to visit Cons: Rude staff, primely priced problem birds more
