I recently moved to Austin and needed to schedule a 6 month cleaning and check up. Most recently I had been given a clean bill of health at my former dentist in June 2008. \r
\r
I had been solicited by Dr. Dyson through a direct mailer when I moved to Avery Ranch so I scheduled an appt.\r
\r
Upon arriving at the office I waited 15-20 after my scheduled appointment to be seen.\r
\r
The office is clean and newer. I did not have any issues with the facility itself, the ease of finding it, or the parking situation.\r
\r
The hygenist took over an hour to clean my teeth, take xrays, and use this photo pen to take images of the tops of my molars. The cleaning was ok, but this seemed to take longer than normal in my experience.\r
\r
Dr Dyson came into the exam room and had a very standoffish demeanor with me. He used the images on the screen to make a diagnosis. He said, based on looking at these pictures, not xrays, that I'd need a root canal, two caps, two old fillings replaced, and two new fillings. His estimate was $3600 on top of the $280 for the initial visit. I asked if he would actually look into my mouth to determine if what he was seeing on the photos was actually what was going on, and he abruptly said ""let me do my exam"". I found him to be unprofessional, unfriendly and overall unpleasant.\r
\r
I have no tooth sensitivity or pain, have always seen my dentist regularly, and was in shock that in Dr Dyson's opinion I would need such radical treatment.\r
\r
I feel as though Dr Dyson's approach to dentistry is drill happy. I have a hard time believing in what he was telling me. Basically he wanted to do something to six of the teeth in my mouth in one way or another. I don't believe he was conservative in his approach.
Pros: clean office
Cons: poor overall experience with this dentist; will not return.
