The Paramount. 5/7/2006

The Paramount is the best place to see a big name show in the Bay Area – if you can get tickets. This is the smallest place you'll ever get to see a band like Tool or Bjork, and they play here because the space is so amazing. With balconies and a huge stage, the entire room is restored to glorious old-school movie house splendor. From the second you step into the lobby you're transported to a time when they knew how to do entertainment. The bummer is that since it's a much smaller venue than these big acts usually play, it's often impossible to get tickets (even if you call the moment tickets are released), and even if you can get tickets, it's expensive! Better then to go see the classic movies they show here periodically. They even do the whole pipe organ thing at the beginning. And there's a BART stop literally right at the door. more

Wouldn't be the same without the organ 8/15/2005

Located at 20th and Broadway in Oakland, the Paramount is one of the last theaters remaining in the generation of huge and grand movie palaces. The theater today is used for historic movies and also live theater depending on the night and occasion. If you get to see a movie, make sure to arrive early to enjoy the live organist and the Dec-O-Win game played with your ticket stub! more

Great and intimate venue 8/6/2005

The Paramount Theatre is located in downtown Oakland, and is conveniently located very near the BART station. The theatre features a wide variety of artists and provides an intimate setting with its 3,000 person capacity. The theatre's interior is elegant and pleasing to the eye. However, remember not to bring food to the theatre, because they will not let you bring it in. Also, the security guards are very strict about camera phones; they make you wait by the door until they get your phone checked out. Don't let your camera phone be visible. more
