Pappy's Army & Navy

We had not been to Pappys for 2 summers and decided to stop on the way to the beach. What a change. The store has been downsized and that wasn't all. The guy who used to run the place is gone now and the old guy running it doesn't seem to have a clue. The store is very messy and stinky. Same old stuff as last time, but higher prices and not much of selection. Don't ask the guy running the place anything. He either cannot hear or just chooses to ignore you. I asked about some military medals and got a very cold response. The guy who used to run the place at least knew about military stuff, this guy just acts really dumb. Lot of smelly old uniforms in piles and old field gear laying around. On a scale of 1 - 10, I give it a 0. The good news is that another store is opening in Goldsboro soon. Got this from a local cop and he said some of the old Pappys employees are going to run it. One more thing before making the trip to Pappys. Keep your women in the car. This guy eyeballed my 13 year old granddaughter so much, she started crying. And about the same with my 27 year old daughter. What a lecherous old fool. But if you need a place to go, I would suggest anywhereelse, or at least somewhere down the roadPappys was good a few years ago, but no more. ONe more thing. They are closed on saturday. I have been going to this store since I was a kid and now I take my kids and friends there almost weekly. Sadly, yes they are shutting down. Another store may pop up but it won't be Pappys. As for any racist or off color comment by the good folks there, I have never heard anything like what was reported. These guys are very knowledgeable and know what they are doing and selling. They are also good Americans who can figure out what is happening to their country. The owner is getting close tor retirement and just wants to slow down. As for the other guy, when the store shut down, come see me. I'll hire you immediately if you want. I think old JB was in the wrong store or maybe he is a liberal. Either way, don't let his story fool you into not going to Pappys before they close. Hopefully their online service will be as good as their store service. I have known about Pappy's since I was a kid and have shopped there occasionally. I was on my way back home when I thought I would stop in since I hadn't been in for many years and wanted to check out some holsters. While browsing the store clerk and another customer were loudly discussing politics and how they hope Obama doesn't get reelected. I kind of expect this sort of rhetoric from a store like this so I tried to ignore it. But as much as I agree that people have the right to their own opinion I don't feel as a business owner or employee that its OK to use words like ""N--ger"" and ""Illegal Mexican"" in front of other customers. Just because the only two customers in the store at the time are white doesn't give you just cause to start spouting out racist remarks. I would think people who serve in the military would be less hostile to others races since those ""N--gers"" and ""Illegal Mexicans"", who probably aren't illegal in the first place, are some of the same soldiers who are watching your back so you don't come home in a body bag. My own opinions aside, the store had a pretty skimpy selection as the clerk said the owner was going to rent out the building and sale everything online. Maybe he was sore that he was losing his job, but he might want to change his attitude if he plans on trying to find another. more
