Mourn Your Loss 10/10/2009

The Pappas family have always sustained some of the best restaurant experiences I have encountered in life. I first ate at Pappasitos in Houston during the late 1980's. When the menu changed, some years back, the quality started to fall off. Tonight, I ate at the location in Austin. The chicken enchiladas, with the red sauce, were still pretty good; however, the hard shell chicken taco: a) had no red sauce; b) tasted very bland & c) was not as good as Taco Bell. The recipe for the Charo beans was rather boring & tasteless. The reason I am writing this review centers on the horrible fajitas that my wife ordered. In the past, not many Tex-Mex chains touched Pappasitos with their deep-charred flavor that was out of this world. Now, they have none of that taste. I would find better fajitas in the meat counter at HEB. No more Pappsitios for me. It is not worth the money they want. Is corporate falling asleep & not monitoring quality? Something has changed in this restaurant chain and it is not good. When taste goes south, corporate is usually involved. Think of it this way, if the Colonel were alive, he would die from what is being served at KYC. The same goes for the Pappas chain. Pros: Great chips and sauce, fresh tortillas Cons: Expensive for the product given more

Best Fajitas around 9/4/2009

The fajitas here are the best I have ever had. The tortillas are homemade, the meat is always tender (beef or chicken), and it comes with the melted butter sauce! Hot roasted salsa is awesome, top shelf margaritas are large and potent (better be for 10 bucks!). The tableside guac is great, and so is their tortilla soup! Kinda weird that you have to pay extra for cheese and sour cream for the fajitas... really? Oh well, it's still worth it! Pros: Fajita's, Margaritas Cons: Loud, cramped, wait more

Yup - Its #1 7/10/2009

I like keeping Austin Wierd, but when it comes to my food, I prefer my waitress not to have armpit hair. The food is ALWAYS GOOD. Service is EXCELLENT and worth every penny. I have NEVER been disappointed. more

Come ON!?! #1? REALLY? 7/9/2009

I mean really?!! A chain restaurant is number 1 in austin? Papasitos? Pros: warm salsa is good Cons: I can think of 10 better tex mex places in austin... more

Worth the wait 10/3/2008

My husband and I have eaten here several times. Since this is the only location in the Austin area, we've had to wait to be seated each time. But the food and service has made up for it. We love their Table-Side Guacamole! We enjoy their Tex-Mex Combination plates. During our last visit, we had the Quail (first time at this restaurant) and it was delicious! They serve great food and the portions are generous. The only complaint I have is that there should be more locations in this area. Pros: food and service Cons: Need more area locations! more

Avoid Pappasitos for Dinner Parties 3/26/2007

We booked the small party room at Pappasitos and were very disappointed. No one told us that the room had a door that opened to the hotel next door. There were people coming in and out of our party the entire time we were there. We asked the waitress to prevent people from interrupting our party, but we still had people coming through. It got so bad that when I tried to tell someone that we were having a party and that they needed to go around, the man tried to slam the door on me. The manager did not come over until I asked for him and then all he did was apologize and lock the door. Our party was already over. It was a horrible experience and I don't understand why the doors weren't locked to begin with. I would not recommend Pappasitos to anyone having a dinner party! Cons: Manager provides poor customer service more

I'm in heaven! 9/7/2006

Im new in town and Pappasitos is one of the restaurants near my hotel. First I looked at the menu on their web-site, it looked very interesting. Pros: Two Thumbs UP! Cons: I didn't find any. more

GREAT FOR LARGE EVENTS-A ++++++++ 5/18/2005

My husband and I hosted my sons rehearsal dinner there in March and we were blown away with everything. Becky, the banquet coordinator, took care of everything, all we had to do was show up and enjoy the evening. The food & service were outstanding! We have been regulars for years and continue to do so. A +++++ Pros: Great service, Amazing Food, Lively Atmosphere Cons: Only one location more

pappasitos is the king of Tex-Mex 7/14/2004

Pappasitos is the best Tex-Mex in town. The food is outstanding, the service is wonderful and the environment is exciting. I have been there several times and they will gladly take a party of 20 or 2. I recommend to go many times and try a little bit of everything. I can not wait to go back!!!!!! more

The best Mexican food I have ever tasted 4/1/2004

Pappasitos offers by far the most incredible mexican food and drinks around. The platters are HUGE and each dish comes with plenty of extras, like rice, charro or refried beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, mexican garlic butter (for their world famous fajitas), and an unlimited amount of soft tortillas, fresh baked chips, and FANTASTIC salsa. Perhaps the greatest thing about this restaraunt is its service: your meal is brought promptly to your table, still sizzling! You cant go wrong on anything from fajitas to quail to the brochette shrimp. Everything is amazing! Pros: Outstanding service, Delicious food, Large portions more

Pappasitos - Best Hot Sauce Around 1/13/2003

I have been in the foodservice business for over 20 years, and have ""sampled"" many different restaurants in Austin (raised here in Austin). Without a doubt, Pappasito's offers the best hot sauce around, and the best service. I am also a Dietitian and have found the menu to be very ""calorie watcher friendly). You can always find grilled chicken, and of course the tortilla soup is the best in town. Hats off to the service and management. I have never been disappointed. Pros: great hot sauce, super service, friendly staff Cons: long waits (popular) more

Awful food 5/18/2002

Be it Tex-Mex or Mexican, this place's food is terrible. The solution the kitchen uses to disguise the bad cooking by drowning the food in cheese. Don't know what the drinks are like, but I wouldn't eat there and wouldn't recommend anyone else to either. more
