Palomar is the way to go if you're not sure what you want to do with your life. You can complete your general education requirements at an unbelievably cheap price of like $20/unit and then transfer to a 4-year college. The instructors are, for the most part, good, although some are just phoning it in for whatever reason. A few in the English department are extraordinary, although, knowing Palomar, those instructors were probably never offered tenure and have since gone.
The big caveat is that you get what you pay for in terms of academic guidance and support. I found most of the administrative staff to be downright incompenent and possessing very little knowledge or concern about assessing whether or not a student was taking the classes required fro transfer. Further, they did not cater to working students - if you needed a Financial Aid appointment, for example, well, they work the same hours you do...plan on missing work to be there.
