For those not in the know, Palm Terrace was bought by Tampa's Housing and Urban Development division (represented by Kara Hill), but Kara Hill serves locally as the Administrator while her mother, Cheri Hill was subsequently hired as the ""Resident Care Director"".
I can't imagine how it would be anyone's -- especially one of its resident's -- ""dream come true.""
Daily activities are minimal -- that is, when they ARE carried out. Sure, BINGO may be an adrenaline rush for some, but for the other 16 hours during which residents are awake, they are bored stiff.
The food served to the residents is horrible. Having seen the meals, I'd imagine it's what one would be served whilst incarcerated. Residents are served unhealthy diets consisting of heat-and-eat packaged foods by an overweight ""nutritionist"" whose certification expired years ago. Residents have dietetic limitations (diabetes, colon cancer, etc.) that are not catered to (as PissedOffDaughter mentioned). I don't think serving dessert with every meal is a good idea, either.
The community is nice, and there's a sense of comradery amongst the residents. They all seem to share the same sentiment: ""I hate being stuck in this God-forsaken place.""
The staff is unsympathetic, at best. Often too concerned with checking their social networks or playing on their phones, they neglect the individual needs of the residents on an hourly basis. Medications are served at the staff's convenience, and medication labels are never checked to see important details, such as timing and dosage, whether this should be taken with food, whether it should or should not be taken with other medications, etc.
The bottom line is: A handful of staff members work at Palm Terrace Assisted Living Facility because they are caregivers at heart, and they have found a way to turn their natural instinct to help others into income. Unfortunately, though, the remaining 95% of the staff at PTALF is only there to collect a paycheck for ""babysitting old folks until their shift is over.""
